My weekend reading,The World:A Family History by that brilliant historian,Simon Sebag Montefiore 👌👌 the book looks at the prominent families that have dominated human history in the various continents of the world,from the prehistoric era to the present age(it is astonishing how society,no matter what era we are in,will always be dominated and shaped by a few prominent families the world over)🤔🤔 I love this section on page 728 of the book(it is 1262 pages long) reflecting on the brutal era of Robespierre and the French Revolution(the revolution that defines all modern revolutions and enabled the ushering in of concepts that we moderns take for granted such as:the nation,the nation-state,nationalism etc)."The end of the sacred monarchy inaugurated the cult of the nation and its institutional doppelganger,the nation-state,still the basic unit of organising governments today.Power is the mother of ideology.Nationalism,the identification with a bigger community that shared language,fortified by race and history-both often invented and garnished with plangent myths-developed to justify the nation-state."🤔🤔
