Yes! Yes! Yes! 🙌
In today’s competitive business environment, fostering humility can seem counterintuitive. However, it is a cornerstone of sustainable success. One effective way to promote humility within your business is by building your team’s individual confidence.
When employees are confident in their abilities and value, they are less likely to feel threatened by others’ successes and more inclined to celebrate them. This creates a culture where collaboration and mutual respect thrive, rather than one dominated by competition and ego.
Here are a few strategies to build individual confidence and, in turn, nurture humility:
1. Recognize and Celebrate Achievements: Acknowledge the contributions of team members publicly. This not only boosts their confidence but also sets an example of humility in leadership.
2. Provide Opportunities for Growth: Encourage continuous learning and development. When employees feel competent and capable, they are more likely to approach challenges with humility and a willingness to learn from others.
3. Encourage Open Communication: Create an environment where team members feel safe to express their ideas and concerns. This openness fosters trust and mutual respect, essential components of humility.
4. Model Humble Leadership: Lead by example. Show your team that true leadership is about service, not status. Demonstrate humility in your actions and decisions.
Building a team’s confidence is not just about enhancing individual performance; it’s about creating a work environment where humility and collaboration lead to collective success.
By investing in your team’s confidence, you cultivate a workplace culture that values humility, ultimately driving innovation and long-term success.

Prominent leaders are often those with lower levels of intelligence within their team. The reason? They seek to surround themselves with individuals more capable than them for the collective benefit of the team and organization. #leadership#leadershipfirst#people#peoplefirst#peopledevelopment

The concept that confidence is the core of humility is not obvious, but it is true and can be a difference-maker in becoming a great leader and improving your team.

Helping members of your team feel confident and empowered is absolutely the key to creating a cohesive team that's actually moving in the same direction.
Most of the teams I work with show up feeling dysfunctional. They complain that they're not all on the same page, all rowing in different directions. When we get down to the core of what's up - very often the individual members of the team don't feel their leader lacks confidence in them and they, therefore, haven't been empowered as a leader in their own right.
Where THIS comes from is a lack of confidence from the leader themselves.
Look, very few of us moved into leadership with anyone showing us how to be a good leader. Even taking leadership development courses doesn't fully prepare us to make our way as a leader. We often see how others are doing it and try to copy them.
But that doesn't work - at least not for very long.
How have you become confident as a leader? Who did you learn from? How did you find your way through to lead in a way that feels natural for YOU, not someone else?
For me... I had to dive deep and actually understand who I am and stay true to that. My skills and talents as a leader are different from yours or anyone else's. And that's a good thing!
Let's not all try to be the same type of leader. Let's find the confidence to be ourselves in our own style of leadership.

Excellent insights! Again, Simon Sinek nailed it.
Have you ever worked with a leader who guards insights, only share with you limited knowledge? It never a 100%?
The insecure leadership (breeded from lack of confidence) will ensure that you know enough to do your job but never able to outrace the leaders themselves.
For top leaders, build on confidence in the leaders so leaders could feel secured and confident enough to not fear of being “replaced” and focus on growing talent for your organization.
What are some approaches to help build confidences in leaders?
🔥Building Confidence:
- Encourage leaders to see sharing knowledge as a demonstration of confidence rather than a risk.
- Highlight examples where sharing expertise has led to greater influence and recognition.
🔥Creating a Supportive Environment:
- Foster a culture where leaders feel secure and valued, reducing the need to protect their knowledge.
- Recognize and reward collaborative behaviors to reinforce the benefits of knowledge sharing.
🔋Encouragement for Leaders:
- Lead with Security: Reassure leaders that their value is not solely based on what they keep to themselves, but also on what they contribute to others' growth.
- Confidence Through Contribution: Emphasise that true confidence comes from empowering others and contributing to the collective success of the organization.
- Mentorship and Collaboration: Encourage leaders to mentor and collaborate, as this can enhance their own reputation and the team's overall performance.

Humility is associated with good listening, but according to this also with self-confidence. Our concept of a learning community/social enterprise means keeping humility, and radical hospitality sharp and present.
