PLC or Embedded Control Solution? In industrial control solutions, there are two main choices: a PLC system or an embedded control solution. A PLC provides great flexibility but requires programming knowledge and more time to prepare and verify a program's functionality. The second option is an embedded control unit, which offers a preprogrammed solution with verified functionality. It doesn’t require specialized programming skills and significantly reduces commissioning time; however, its flexibility is lower than that of a PLC. The InteliSys 2000 combines the best of both. It offers preprogrammed functions for typical application parts (such as generator and breaker control, protections, engine management, etc.), but if you need something extra, our easy PLC Editor is available and doesn’t require any advanced programming skills. Our PLC Editor is designed to be simple yet powerful. It is based on functional blocks that can be selected from a list and placed on the canvas. Their combination creates new functions. Each block has a description with an example directly in the configuration tool. Since the PLC Editor is part of the unit’s firmware, all the variables and signals are already available, and you can simply select them from the list. If needed, adding new ones is as easy as adding an extension module. No “variable defining” in a programmer’s language is required. The PLC Editor has been part of our control units for many years, and based on our experience, one afternoon is enough to get familiar with it.
