✨WHY DID BONNEY's BSc JOURNEY TAKE 5 YEARS INSTEAD OF THE CONVECTIONAL 4? Will I say I may declare myself as the most resilient young adult to exist in 21st century? Life often throws challenges our way, and my journey through university was marked by significant trials. While pursuing my bachelor's degree in Environmental Science at KNUST, I faced severe health challenges that nearly crashed my educational dream in level 300. 👩🦼In 2016, an anterior cruciate ligament tear of my right knee, further dislocation of my pelvis, and dislocations in both knees as a result of too many anti-inflammatory drugs such as Arthro 7 & 8, Celebre, Diclofenac denk, Arthrosamine, and Arthrotec, Wellman, Osteocare, in my system. Health challenges forced me to defer my program, extending my undergraduate studies to five years (2014 -2019). Despite these physical setbacks, I remained determined to push forward. My vacations were filled with hospital and herbal treatments, leaving no room for #internship opportunities. Financial difficulties and depressions compounded my struggle, with all my savings directed towards medical treatments. Through it all, I found strength in encouraging fellow students and mentees facing financial or non-health-related challenges to persevere. This experience taught me the true meaning of resilience and the power of determination. Will you wonder how I managed to write semesters' exams even in my plight? or even how I was able to walk distances from my hostel to lecture halls whiles accepting my fate by applying faith? The deadline to apply to university through UCAS for 2024 entry is coming up on January 31st. Here are some key dates and tips to know: The equal consideration deadline for most courses is January 31st at 6pm. This is the latest time universities have to give equal treatment to applications. Some competitive courses like medicine and dentistry had earlier October deadlines. They may have passed. Double check your programme's deadline! Your child's application includes: personal details, academic history, work experience, course choices, a personal statement. Read the requirements. If you miss the deadline or don't get any offers, UCAS Extra from February to July offers another chance to apply. You can also consider apprenticeships which have rolling deadlines. Or speak to a guidance counselor about alternate pathways. The key is getting your application submitted on time to maximize your chances. ✨ 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐲 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲: 𝐀 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 ✨ As I look back on my journey to becoming a primary school teacher, one project from my final year at university stands out as particularly meaningful. During my internship at a primary school, I created a project that has left a lasting impact on me. Our project featured two smiles: a happy smile being fed healthy foods and a sad smile being fed unhealthy foods. This simple yet powerful concept connected different fields like science, biology, and even math. For example, we explored the nutritional value of foods (science), the impact of diet on the body (biology), and calculated nutritional values and daily intakes (math). This project is more than just a memory; it’s an emotional reminder of where I started and the importance of our roots as educators. It's crucial for us teachers to remember our beginnings, to reflect on our growth, and to appreciate the journey. Planning is important, but we shouldn't get so stressed about finishing tasks that we forget to enjoy the process together with our students. From this experience, I learned that teaching is not just about imparting knowledge but also about creating meaningful connections and fostering a love for learning in our students. We look not only at your grades, but your experiences, personal attributes (per your letters of recommendation and personal statement), and eagerness to learn and join the field of dietetics. COLLEGE GRADUATES: Mastery takes a very long time. We may have gone through years and years of study in nutrition, and a 1000 hours of internship, yet we still are merely apprentices. When you start your first job, you just started an apprentice into a vocation. You have competency but no experience. They are very different. Humble yourself and let your ego of graduation transform into a hunger for skills. Once you graduate, fix your eyes onto a niche that fascinates you. Seek to know every nuance of that field of study. Once you have skills built through years of experience, seek to develop theories and test them against your peers and professional organizations. Never become complacent. While most of the messaging regarding this Supplements Masterclass has been around how the course can help high school seniors or ambitious juniors with one of the trickiest and most important parts of the application: the supplemental essays, this course has a much broader appeal. Students as young as 9th or 10th grade can use it to help them learn how to write personal narratives detailing their dreams and achievements. Instead of collating and writing college supplements, they can gather a bank of scholarship essays and then systematically attack them with expert feedback. It will give them a bank of essays they can use to apply for future internships. Most importantly, it will empower them to tell their story confidently, changing their default setting from inaction to decisive action when opportunities present themselves.
