Some real talk about this video, and what it means to be a #CPG #founder:
All of the non-food-handling processes at Scratch Treats take place in a 10x20 foot shed behind my house. That includes package #labeling, sealing, taping up boxes, prepping shipments, and yes - putting a completely unnecessary "Scratch Treats" stamp on every single mailer. At this stage, -everything- is a one-person job!
If the lighting is wierd, it's because I don't have lights out there. I take a rechargeable lamp out with me.
If my hands are red, it's because it's really cold! I have a space heater on an extension cord from the house, but it never gets above 60 degrees in the shed at this time of year.
I sped the video up, but in reality this part of the work is monotonous and slow. I stamped 100 bags in a row on a break between other tasks.
At some point in the future, maybe I'll look back at this video and smile. (I hope so!) Maybe I'll have even have a facility with electricity and heat!
But regardless, I want to share this stage - because if you #bootstrap a business making something by hand, there's a good chance you'll be working alone a cold shed yourself for a while. Stick with it!!
