Keeping My Options Open While my passion for the biotechnology industry continues to grow, there’s a part of me that’s increasingly curious about exploring the R&D side of the field. That’s why I’m seriously considering the possibility of pursuing a graduate degree to dive deeper into the research and development aspects of biotechnology. To explore this path, I recently participated in the Purdue University Virtual Open House to learn more about their programs and how a graduate education could enhance my knowledge and open new doors in R&D. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me and how I can continue contributing to the biotech field—whether in industry or research! #GraduateSchool #Biotechnology #ResearchAndDevelopment #PurdueUniversity #CareerExploration #BiotechR&D #UPRM

🌟 After few years past, I just remembering what I went through during the journey. For nearly six years, I poured my energy into the lab—working 24/7 to develop an innovative approach for the first time. From isolating strains to optimizing processes, it was an Hard road. But the hard work paid off: my Ph.D. thesis was recognized as the best of the year, and I was honored with the Sanggar Sanjung Award for publication in 2020. Weekly progress meetings, endless experiments, and troubleshooting complex machinery—it was no joke in biotechnology. Running experiments in the lab, and analyzing data, studying for new methods in the library simultaneously was tiring. I found myself sleeping more in the lab and car than at home. Looking back, I would choose same, but this time with more belief in myself. There were moments of doubt and exhaustion, but journey gave me the strength. I am deeply grateful to all researchers pushing the boundaries in upstream and downstream bioprocesses. I’m truly proud of having a strong foundation in both processes as a lady dealing with machinary—it took time, patience, and strength. My Ph.D. wasn’t just about earning a degree; it shaped me into a problem-solver. #Biotechnology #PhDJourney #Innovation #Bioprocessing

"Learning is a constant process" This is something that I truly believe in. It has only been a couple of weeks since college classes have begun and the amount of knowledge being imparted to us is enticing while it is overwhelming. Today was my first day actually delving into the laboratory work that is going to be the core as I continue to pursue B.Sc. Biotechnology Hnrs. The wonder of a world that is at our fingertips (literally) and that can be manipulated according to our will and to be able to work in the core of research has opened new horizons for me mentally and academically. The first of many steps, this journey has already begun feeling very freeing and has already changed my perspective for the better. #college #labwork #biotechnology #research #study

Biotechnical Engineering Students Explore Cutting-Edge Research at KU Edwards Campus On Thursday, Biotechnical Engineering students attended Biotech Day at the KU Edwards Campus, where they had the opportunity to engage with experts in the field and explore emerging research. Dr. Ashley Urban, Program Manager for the Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (ICCAE), provided insights into the ICCAE program and the certificates available to KU students, highlighting opportunities for academic and professional growth. Dr. Ian Gut, Biosecurity Lead Strategist, discussed his groundbreaking research on the antibiotic Nisin and its potential application in combating Anthrax. An interesting fact—Nisin is also an ingredient in Kraft sliced cheese! Additionally, KU senior capstone students showcased their research through thought-provoking presentations. Topics included: ✅ The effects of PFAS, a “forever chemical” found in cookware and dental floss, on C. elegans ✅ The impact of BHB on inflammation in pets ✅ The influence of heavy metals on plant health This event provided students with valuable exposure to real-world applications of biotechnology, reinforcing the critical role of research in solving global challenges.
