India has halted potato & onion exports to Bangladesh, citing local supply priorities. This decision has disrupted imports through Hili Land Port, leading to a price increase of BDT 10 per kg for potatoes, now selling at BDT 70 per kg. Traders express concerns over losses due to unresolved slot booking issues & halted shipments despite LCs. A meeting in Kolkata is expected to address the export challenges affecting both countries.

I urge the Bangladesh government to diversify import sources by allowing all importers to engage with multiple countries worldwide. Reliance on a single country like India for essential goods has repeatedly caused supply disruptions and price hikes. It's time to explore partnerships with alternative markets, ensuring stable supplies and competitive pricing. Boycotting Indian imports permanently would reduce dependency and encourage a more self-reliant and resilient trade strategy for Bangladesh.
