Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata and Haldia Dock Complex have reported an 8.7% decline in cargo handling in the first half of FY24, in stark contrast to a 5% increase across major Indian ports. The significant drop in coking coal volumes, which fell by 33%, has been attributed to a diversion of shipments to deeper-drafted ports like Paradip Port Authority. The ongoing spike in seaborne bulk cargo rates and restrictions on larger vessels at Haldia have further impacted logistics costs and cargo traffic. Officials anticipate a potential rebound in coking coal volumes with the arrival of favorable weather conditions in October. https://lnkd.in/g4kYEykt #KolkataPort #HaldiaDock #CargoHandling #CokingCoal #Logistics #SupplyChain #IndianPorts #PortPerformance #SeaborneCargo #ParadipPort #FreightRates #EconomicImpact #ShippingIndustry #MaritimeTrade #FY24
