At AllChiefs, we believe in the transformative power of collaboration and knowledge sharing. 🌍✨ Connecting with individuals from diverse organisations brings fresh perspectives and thought-provoking ideas that drive our improvement and innovation. Last month, we expanded our presence internationally by attending several key events in Sweden. Chief Manuel Harmsen led our efforts, representing AllChiefs at conferences and meetings focused on the decarbonisation of logistics. From the Annual Meeting of the Fossil Free Sweden, to the TECHARENA event, and the Green Energy Transition hosted by the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Sweden, the month was filled with valuable insights, networking opportunities, and a strengthened commitment to achieving net zero by 2050. 🌱🌏 Check out his reflections, and join us in this vital journey towards a sustainable future. 💪 #AllChiefs #ConsultancyWithAHeartbeat #FossilFreeSweden #TECHARENA #DutchChamberOfCommerce #NetherlandsEmbassySweden #GreenEnergyTransition #DecarboniseLogistics #NetZeroEmissions #AllEmpowering #AllActionable

Fun days in West London this week, courtesy of Innovation Zero’s 2024 Congress at London Olympia, where some of the Aker Carbon Capture team (Jason Frost, Fraser Archibald, Helen Ricketts and myself) joined the 10,000 or so delegates (that’s a lot of security bag searches btw) amid the first signs of spring (⛅ which have now gone) and decent free coffee ☕ (see below). Promising discussions across a v. broad mix of themes - transport & industrial decarbonisation (thanks Carbon Capture and Storage Association and Olivia Powis for the #CCUS session), clean tech innovation and much more. Also great to see our friends & office neighbours from Sustainable Ventures at the show (Hannah Robinson, Lauren Pilgreen, plus many others) and always fun to catch topical speeches from both governing and shadow UK secretaries of state for energy (🤔 is there an election this year??). So, a lot to discuss (too much for here) but – staying away from politics – here's some of what caught our attention: 💰 The invest-a-bility vs. finance-a-bility challenge – the importance of (actual) financial returns, business models and the ability (need?) for infrastructure capital to handle the risks with first (or second or third) of a kind climate tech; as one speaker said, “change moves at the speed of money” 🤓 The leaving the lab challenge – or in other words, the cleantech funding gap; quite good capital availability for early-stage feasibility and design, but not for stepping up “out of the lab” to support building a full scale demo plant; which capital providers are willing to bridge this gap? Or are ‘strategic’ corporates needed to underpin the investment case? 🧟♂️🧟♀️ The shiny new ideas vs. zombies challenge – entrepreneurial enthusiasm will always support the ‘our technology is probably one of the most promising sustainable solutions in the market’ message, but how best can fantastic ideas shift to focus on delivery, not perfection? (we see this theme in ‘new tech’ for #carboncapture too) ✈ 🚢 The sustainable transport volume challenge – decarbonising aviation and shipping was a big theme; good discussions around the volume challenge (daunting levels of implied demand), the potential for more focus on engine efficiency, aerodynamics and “not getting lost down the rabbit hole of hydrogen vs SAF” ⛔ The removals challenge – voluntary carbon markets & CDRs saw good interest, although maybe not as much as we’d expect? Plenty of noise re CDRs in ‘our world’ especially with waste/biomass-to-power and pulp & paper, supporting these as early mover industries in #CCUS ☕ And the free coffee challenge – a comfortable win for the barista at the National Gas stand (good spot, Lee Billingham), claiming the top spot ahead of the coffee bar at HSBC’s exhibit All in all, very worthwhile & great to meet many old and new friends in an increasingly exciting (and important) year for our industry. Last week, I attended a GreenTech Days meet Future of Building 2024 conference and I’m impressed! With all my skepticism about the effectiveness of fast networking in a virtual environment, I was pleasantly surprised by how deep such connections could be! Only 20 minutes to get acquainted with your partner and find common ground on #GreenTech, so I had to give it my all, and then some 😊 As a result, I’ve added to my LinkedIn a pretty big number of people from Austria (where the conference was held) and Czechia. And each of them shared with me info about current projects and goals with a gleam in their eyes! I’ve heard about a lot of new things starting from the tool for ultrasonic sensor cleaning, and up to various solutions to reduce the environmental damage caused by industrial waste emissions. Great to hear that today people always think first about the welfare of our planet ⋆.˚🦋༘⋆ Moreover, I want to highlight my own top #1 #green speaker – Johanna Mayr-Keber. Her ideas and propositions on green construction resonated with the conference's theme of minimizing environmental impact and were deep and absolutely meaningful. The mantra 'less is more' has never been more relevant. As we face critical environmental challenges, it's becoming increasingly clear that the key to preserving our planet lies not in expanding our footprint, but in minimizing it. Johanna’s approach of building less and using fewer resources embraces the philosophy that achieving true sustainability means making deliberate choices to do less – less construction, less consumption, and ultimately, less environmental impact. Attending conferences like this one is a great way to connect, learn, and inspire action. I mean, forewarned is forearmed. #BuildingEfficiency #LessIsMore #GreenTechConference #ClimateAction

🌍 Transforming Value Chains for a Sustainable Future 🌿 Reflecting after a day at the Net Zero Festival in London. Every session had great insights, from utilising climate risk to better make market decisions, to an update on UK Gov's renewed commitment to the environment. 👥It was great to catch up with Layla, Olivia (Impact Amplified) and Briony (The Circular Life). Your work empowering and developing people and strategies is so crucial for enabling businesses to go further, faster. 🌟 The standout session for me was with James and Henrietta from the Forum for the Future. They introduced 7 crucial shifts needed to create resilient, fair, and thriving value chains: 1️⃣ Fair Decisions: Value Chains ➡ Value Networks 2️⃣ Good Business: Exploitation ➡ Regeneration and Resilience 3️⃣ Real Pricing: Unfunded 'Externalities' ➡ True Value 4️⃣ Context Specific: 'One-Sizes-Fits-All' ➡ Responsive Approach 5️⃣ Shared Responsibility: Transactional ➡ Reciprocal 6️⃣ Data for Good: Gated and Guarded ➡ Distributed 7️⃣ Trust Transparency: Opaque supply chains ➡ Transparent Value Networks 💡 My take: These shifts aren't just theory - they're essential for creating lasting impact and unlocking hidden value in our businesses. It is already starting to happen, with some great case studies on Forum for the Future's site, see the comments ⤵ 👉 Want to find the hidden value for your business? Drop me a message to explore how we can implement these ideas in practice, for you. #NetZeroFestival #SustainableValueChains #NetZero #BusinessTransformation
