If you're moving from a rehab hospital directly to an assisted living community and you want to continue physical therapy, be sure to share your insurance information with the assisted living community as soon as possible so the paperwork can be completed before the move occurs.  This helps prevent a gap in the therapy while Medicare and the insurance companies get everything sorted out.  Contact us to learn more about things to plan for when getting ready to move to an assisted living community.

A very special way some Assisted Living Communities show how much they care for their residents is to do a "Family Favorite Home Cooked Meal" once a month. For this event, the chef uses a favorite family recipe of a particular resident (which they have used many times at family gatherings) and then prepares the same meal for the entire Assisted Living Community. Now the particular resident has shared something very personal with their new friends and neighbors. Many Assisted Living Communities have a game room for residents to play pool, throw darts, and enjoy card games like poker or bridge. When considering an Assisted Living Community, be sure to ask which hospital the local EMT crews take someone in case of an emergency.  It might not always be the exact closest one -- it might be the nearest one that can handle higher levels of care.  And depending on the type of situation, the EMT crew may let you choose hospitals because the incident isn't life threatening.  Contact us to learn more about what questions to ask when you're comparing Assisted Living Communities for you or a loved one.

Spent yesterday morning at the zoo participating in the American Lung Association’s Lung Force Walk with Catherine Widemire and Mindi Bub.

When moving to an Assisted Living Community, there is the question of when to sell the home -- before or after the move.  Maybe the sale needs to happen first to help fund the move to Assisted Living.  But maybe moving the desired furniture and items from the house to the Assisted Living Community first makes sense from a logistics perspective to allow a more leisurely transfer... and then sell the house once the move is complete.  This is one of the decisions we'd be happy to discuss with you when you're considering moving to an Assisted Living Community in your area.
