Exploring different voices around tension at different levels with Laurent Vuibert, Klaudia Jaworska, and other brave souls. I explored the voice of money, and experienced firsthand how powerful and arrogant it is. Truth be told, I quite relished in the dirty puddle of power. Ultimately, the voices of resilience and hope prevailed, and you couldn't write a script for it even if you tried. My learning from this #nniDialogue about tension between collective crisis urgency and personal, immediate concerns is that a voice/perspective is multi-faceted and there's always a b-side to everything. Acknowledging that and trying to see that other side of things is one of the antidotes to heavy tension. Every time I join the dialogue, I love how beautifully organic & powerful it is, and I walk away with rich insights. In a time of heightened polarization, it's more important than ever to engage in constructive disagreement. We all have a role in supporting peace and democracy, and a great starting place is the courage to listen across difference. This panel at PeaceCon is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the broader societal tensions reflected in these protests, with an eye toward the implications for the upcoming academic year alongside practical approaches to unify and support. Our presentation connects directly to our project this year at UVa - Reimagining Protest and Policing in the Public Square: Centering Humanity in the Design and Delivery of Solutions. Through gatherings, workshops and sustained dialogue, our project provides another opportunity for our community to learn from one another across viewpoints, and to learn from the past as a means to come together at this present moment and to join in actions that support a thriving community. Different generations sometimes hold starkly different views. What are the broader consequences? Generational differences can create gaps between age groups, complicating the understanding of others and potentially leading to resentment or even conflicts. Inclusive dialogues across generations, in which people of different ages are valued and heard, can serve as a powerful tool in bringing an array of critical issues to light, from social justice and human rights to sustainable development, climate change, and matters of peace and security. During 2023 FBA and the Swedish Dialogue Institute for the Middle East and North Africa worked together in developing a guidance note on intergenerational dialogue.
