THE RESULTS of a major consultation on the future delivery of three leisure and cultural services in the city will be discussed by councillors next week. Dundee City Council’s city governance committee will hear that Mills Observatory in Dundee could remain open after additional funding was secured by Leisure and Culture Dundee (LACD) which could stop delivering services at Caird Park Golf Courses and from Broughty Castle Museum. https://bit.ly/4fIdCL7

The newly renamed London Museum has received a £50 million funding boost for its transformative redevelopment of Smithfield Market, with contributions from the Mayor of London and the City of London Corporation. This £437 million project will create a world-class cultural hub, celebrating London’s long and fascinating history. The Victorian General Market galleries will open in 2026, followed by the Poultry Market’s learning centre and exhibition space in 2028. As part of the ambitious Peterhead Cultural Project, the historic Arbuthnot House is set to undergo a £20m redevelopment to become the Museum of Aberdeenshire. The new museum will celebrate the region’s rich natural and cultural heritage, offering visitors immersive galleries, interactive exhibits, and a diverse range of permanent and touring exhibitions. (Ministerio de Cultura) This acquisition secures the preservation and maintenance of the historic house, which was once a meeting point for the cultural avant-garde and was the key venue of the cluster Balancing Conficts during Manifesta 15.
