In the Journal of Healthcare Management, Nova Scholars Rebecca Etz and Kurt Stange and others dissect the underlying organizational factors contributing to the deterioration of #PrimaryCare providers’ mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using more than 11,000 responses from the Larry A. Green Center's 2-year Primary Care Survey, authors identified crushing workloads, staff shortages, and insufficient reimbursement, among other factors, as primary causes of stress. Authors call for urgent responses to this crisis and shine a light on possible solutions, including access to confidential, on-demand mental health support, customizing workloads to match capacity, and state and federal support for sustainable practice infrastructures with less administrative burden and increased incentives for retention.
