What do wind turbine, a smart phone, or a motor have in common? They all need copper. The Centinela mine in Chile is one of the 25th largest copper mines in the world to quench this thirst. However, copper mining requires a lot of water. Chile´s largest transmission company Transelec and leading water infra operator Almar Water Solutions won the tender for the acquisition an operation of an existing and construction of an additional 144km long seawater pipeline that will help to reduce the use of freshwater resources. Both pipelines will transport seawater between the Pacific coast and the Centinela Mine in Chile’s Atacama Desert. Our infrastructure debt team in the Americas participated as an anchor investor in a $1.2 billion senior secured debt financing and invested $250 million of the $510 million private placement notes to support the acquisition, operation, and maintenance of this seawater pipeline and the construction of the new parallel pipeline. This transaction further underlines our position as one of the leading infrastructure debt market players in Latin America helping to support the energy transition. This is a landmark transaction for Chile. Seawater pipelines are essential infrastructure for the mining industry, which is the backbone of the national economy. This project is key to the country’s efforts to address a long-standing drought and fight climate change by reducing the use of continental water in mining operations while contributing to the responsible development of the economy. *For professional investors only* #infrastructure #privatemarkets **Sponsor press release: https://ow.ly/IYO350SzqAS
