Slowing #nursing turnover is a great thing. But, #healthcare systems can't get too comfortable or complacent about the data showing that many #nurses chose to stay at the bedside in 2023. As a Becker's Healthcare article reveals, many organizations are offering flexible work schedules, virtual nursing opportunities, and massive sign-on and retention bonuses.
However, it's critical that we remember that the sustainability of the nursing profession requires more than a few bandaids. Nurses need:
🍎 Healthy work environments - Employers must protect both the physical and mental health of nurses by stopping incivility, protecting against #burnout, and providing safe work locations.
💛 Support and Mentorship - Nurses need support from #leadership and colleagues to feel valued. They also need #mentorship and professional development opportunities to continue to grow.
💰 Fair Compensation - Whoever said nurses don't go into the profession to make a good living was wrong! Yes, we want to help people, but the truth is that the job is HARD, requires physical and mental strength, and lots of expensive education. Nurses should be making more than they do now, and we need to keep advocating for #fair and #equitable pay.
It's critical that we all use our collective voice to fight for nursing's sustainability. Even those of us away from the #bedside should speak out because we were once there, and there's a reason we left! It's time to end the #nursingshortage, #burnout, and # turnover with foundational changes to the profession!

1yAn increase in salary can entice Nurses to stay, but sometimes even that is not enough if other important factors are lacking.
