Regular Physical Exercise lowers the risk of at least 13 common forms of Cancer, including Breast and Liver Cancers! Cancer continues to plague the world as one of the leading causes of death. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the disease affects 20 percent of men and 16% of women at some point in their lifetime. Tragically, 12% of affected men succumb to its clutches, while the mortality rate is somewhat lower for women, standing at around 9%. In 2018 alone, cancer was responsible for a staggering 9.8 million lives lost globally. Exercise and Cancer Prevention Exercise is a powerful tool in both preventing and treating Cancer. When it comes to prevention, numerous studies have demonstrated a positive relationship between regular physical activity and reduced cancer risk. A significant breakthrough came in mid-2016 when the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published a comprehensive study showing that consistent physical activity could notably lower the risk of 13 types of Cancer. These encompass common forms like Breast, Esophageal, Liver, Kidney, and Colon Cancer. Exercise and Cancer Treatment Exercise is also an essential component of cancer treatment, counteracting the effects of both Cancer and associated medications. Cancer treatment often weakens the body and lowers aerobic capacity. With guidance from professionals like physiotherapists, a tailored exercise program can significantly reverse these effects, helping individuals regain their physical strength.
