I'm a former theater kid. And according to Josh Groban, you should hire me because of it. Why? - It developed my communication skills at a young age. Theater involves speaking clearly and confidently in front of an audience. I have no problem giving presentations, speaking in meetings, or in one-on-one interactions because by the time I was 10, I had to learn how to speak loudly and clearly to the back of the theater without a microphone and make it look like I wasn't shouting. - I quickly learned how to work on a team. Theater productions require a high level of teamwork. If everyone isn't pulling their weight, the show falls apart. "There are no small parts, only small actors." My fellow theater kids understand the importance of collaboration, supporting colleagues, and contributing to a team effort. It also means I can work with anyone because if I refused to work with a fellow cast or crew member, the show would suffer. - I am GREAT in a creative brainstorming session. Theater encourages creative thinking and the ability to approach problems from different angles. When's the last time you had to create an entire character on the spot when someone gave you a location and occupation? - I'm the one you want around in a crisis. On stage, you face unexpected situations, such as cutting a song or lines in the script. Or sometimes, you accidentally bump into a large set piece and it falls down at a very intense moment (she says not at all from experience). I learned how to adapt and overcome, because the show must go on. - It made me the leader I am today. Performing in theater builds self-confidence and the ability to maintain composure under pressure. I once had 17 costume changes in one show, with 3 quick changes (having to change costumes in less than 30 seconds). Knowing what I needed to make that happen, and ensure the support levels were there, I learned by being a theater kid. And yes, like Josh Groban says - if you need someone who can get something done on a deadline, hire a theater kid. If you need someone who can step into a job and act like they've been doing it the whole time, hire a theater kid. Hire a theater kid. It's good for business. #opentowork #hireme
