𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 For the longest time, I believed that 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 was the key to productivity. I thought that juggling multiple things simultaneously would help me get more done. But reality hit me hard. Tasks would take 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 than expected. I would only get 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗳 the work done. My focus kept shifting, making it harder to concentrate. My 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱, and I became vulnerable to distractions. I realized the problem: 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀. Since then, I made a conscious decision to focus on just one task at a time: 1️⃣ Complete one task. 2️⃣ Take a short break. 3️⃣ Move on to the next task. The result? I started achieving 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆—and the best part? I ended up with extra time to sit back, relax, and recharge. Why focusing on one thing works: - It improves concentration and quality of work. - It reduces stress and overwhelms. - It saves time that would otherwise be lost by shifting between tasks. As the great Bruce Lee once said: "𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘯, 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘳-𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘴." Why am I scrolling through my phone instead of working on that deadline? When everything feels important, nothing gets done, and you might find yourself in the decision fatigue trap: Research shows that the more choices we have, the harder it becomes to decide. This leads to mental exhaustion and procrastination. Here’s how to cut through the noise and focus on what truly matters: 1️⃣ 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐱: Categorize all your tasks into: ➢ Urgent & Important (Do now). ➢ Not Urgent but Important (Schedule). ➢ Urgent but Not Important (Delegate). ➢ Not Urgent & Not Important (Eliminate). 2️⃣ 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 “𝐔𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 & 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭” 𝐛𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭: Multitasking is a myth. Instead, ask yourself: “What’s the ONE task that will have the biggest impact?” 3️⃣ 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐤: Block time in your calendar for deep work. Ideally, align it with your top daily energy flow. Treat these blocks as non-negotiable. 4️⃣ 𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Enable your deep work time to be distraction-free. 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝘆𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿. Many of us are juggling ten things at once, thinking we are being efficient. I’ve even been there myself, trying to handle everything at once, only to end up feeling drained and barely making progress. But multitasking doesn’t make you more 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲. In fact, it does the opposite. When you split your attention across multiple tasks, you’re not giving your best to any of them. Your brain isn’t wired to jump between tasks seamlessly - it slows down, makes mistakes, and leaves you exhausted. Yes I get it, multitasking is so 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. But why? Deadlines are looming, expectations are high, and saying “no” feels impossible. So we overcommit, trying to prove ourselves, and end up buried under the weight of it all. But in reality it scatters your focus, dilutes your energy, and leaves you feeling more 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱. Now you must be thinking how to get over this temptation. Right? Here… → When you give your full 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴, you finish faster and with better results. → 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗼. Overcommitting doesn’t prove your worth. I know, I know—everyone talks about productivity these days. But it’s such a universal challenge, especially in a world overflowing with distractions, that I felt compelled to reflect on it. Staying productive isn’t easy. Between constant notifications, endless emails, and those sneaky distractions disguised as “quick” tasks, it can feel like we’re always playing catch-up. After more than 15 years in the corporate world, I’ve learned that productivity isn’t about fitting more into your day—it’s about focusing on what really matters. Here are a few strategies (which I learned from other professionals) that work for me when distractions threaten to take over: 1. Start with what matters most: Every morning, I pick the top 2-3 tasks that will have the biggest impact and focus on them first. It’s a small habit, but it keeps me moving forward on the big stuff, even if the rest of the day gets chaotic. 2. Set boundaries with tech: I’ve learned to turn off unnecessary notifications and create specific times to check emails or messages. Giving myself tech-free blocks of time helps me stay focused and get deeper into my work. 3. Say "no" more often: This one’s tough, but not every request deserves your time. Learning to politely decline or delegate tasks that don’t align with your priorities has been a game-changer for me. 4. Take real breaks: I used to push through nonstop, but I’ve realized that intentional breaks—like a short walk or a few moments of mindfulness—actually make me more productive in the long run. 5. Do some sport in your life: moving your body from time to time really helps you to focus when you need to. The world is full of distractions, and finding focus has become one of the biggest challenges we all face - at least for me. Whether it's juggling tasks, texts, phone calls, endless notifications, or just the constant pull of our to-do lists, staying focused for me is often an uphill battle. But The truth is: focus isn’t about forcing yourself to concentrate harder. I try all the time.
