Why I’m No Longer Entertaining “Collaboration” Calls That Are Actually Destiny Swapping Opportunities
Collaboration is a beautiful thing—when it’s authentic. However, I’ve noticed a troubling pattern lately: people approaching me under the guise of collaboration, only to turn around and use the insights, strategies, or connections I’ve shared to pursue their own publishing ventures. Let’s call it what it is: destiny swapping.
Destiny swapping happens when someone steps into your orbit, not to build something with you but to subtly siphon your vision, strategies, and hard-earned knowledge to create their own version of what you’ve worked so hard to build.
Here’s the thing: the issue with destiny swapping often stems from a lack of confidence in one’s own path. Instead of looking inward to uncover their unique gifts and purpose, some people peek over the fence, admire someone else’s success, and try to replicate it.
I’ve spent decades marketing and years publishing books. I’m passionate about what I do—but I won’t allow my generosity to be exploited. Collaboration should be about mutual growth, not one-sided extraction.
That said, I want to make one thing clear: I have no problem helping someone who’s genuinely looking to start their own publishing journey. I don’t believe in competition. There’s enough for everyone to eat, and I want to see us all win.
But to protect my vision and energy, I’m setting clear boundaries:
1. Collaboration must be reciprocal. If you approach me, come with a clear value exchange, not vague promises or intentions.
2. Transparency is key. Be upfront about your goals and how you envision us working together.
3. No more “disguised opportunities.” I’m no longer accepting collaboration calls that feel more like fishing expeditions than genuine partnerships.
Let’s move forward with integrity and mutual respect. True collaboration isn’t about taking—it’s about lifting one another up. If that’s your intention, I’m here for it. Otherwise, I'll be protecting my purpose and the work I’ve built—legally if necessary.
For those of you unsure about your path, I strongly encourage you to embrace your own journey. Your destiny is just as powerful and fulfilling as anyone else’s—if you stay true to it.
