Just published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology 🇨🇦: In a single-center, 967-patient sample of first-time, isolated mitral TEER procedures performed between 2013 and 2021, individuals aged above (n=103, 10.7%) and under 90 years experienced similarly high technical success rates and comparable improvement in MR severity and functional capacity as well as survival and heart failure hospitalizations along the first postprocedural year. This was also demonstrated in a 204-case, 1:1 propensity score matched sub-cohort. Our results reflect the apparent feasibility, safety, and efficacy of mitral TEER in the ever-growing, yet constantly under-represented nonagenarian population. I'm thrilled and filled with anticipation as I announce the publication of my inaugural article in the field of #ophthalmology with the cooperation of Mohammad Soleimani Hassan Asadigandomani. 📚New research findings reveal that corneal perforation (OR = 19.27, P = 0.001), hypertension (OR = 3.62, P = 0.03), and older age (OR = 1.03, P = 0.008) are key factors associated with an increased need for surgical interventions. 📊 #MedicalResearch #Healthcare https://lnkd.in/gNTBs9j8

Atrial fibrillation (Afib), a common type of arrhythmia that is on the rise in people under the age of 65, is more dangerous in this increasingly younger population than previously thought, according to a new study published in Circulation Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology and authored by physician-scientists at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute. The study, which is among the first to examine a large group of Afib patients younger than 65 in the U.S., found that these younger patients were more likely to be hospitalized for heart failure, stroke or heart attack and had significantly higher rates of comorbidity and mortality, compared to similarly aged and gender-matched people who do not have Afib. Thrilled to announce that our recent meta-analysis was just published in Cardiology in Review (IF: 3.1) Prognostic Implication of Preprocedural Pulmonary Hypertension in Patients with Severe Aortic Valve Stenosis Undergoing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Link: https://lnkd.in/dkh83zuf This meta-analysis highlights the importance of considering preprocedural PH in assessing prognosis for patients undergoing TAVI. 🎯 Preprocedural PH is associated with higher cardiac and overall 30-day and 1-year mortality after TAVI. Preprocedural PH is linked to increased in-hospital mortality and 30-day acute kidney injury. Thanks to co-authors for this great collaboration #systematicreview #metaanalysis #tavi #pulmonaryhypertension #cardiovascularresearch

https://lnkd.in/guh6mZgG Article title: Pregabalin overdose causing sinus bradycardia – A rare complication Author(s): Rajesh Kumar*; Jathinder Kumar; Ihtisham Malik; Gordon Pate Journal: Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiology Journal ISSN: 2455-2976 Abstract: We present the unique case of severe, symptomatic bradycardia associated with pregabalin overdose. Pregabalin is a widely prescribed drug not routinely associated with sinus bradycardia. A 39 year old male, presented having taken about 4g of pregablin with intention to self-harm. Following admission, he subsequently developed bradycardia on telemetry. Other possible causes were excluded with serial investigations. The bradycardia resolved by 96 hours without the need for temporary pacing. Patients presenting with pregabalin overdose should be monitored for bradycardia. #Bradycardia #Overdose #Pregabalin #CoronaryArteryDiseases #ValvularHeartDisease #Electrophysiology #CardiacElectrophysiology #Echocardiography #InterventionalCardiology #ClinicalCardiology #NuclearCardiology #AcuteCoronarySyndromes #ArrhythmiaEP #CVImaging #CVDPrevention #CardiacArrhythmias #Peertechz #PeertechzPublications #OpenAccess #ScientificJournals #PeerReviewedJournals #OpenAccessPublishers #CardiacPhysiology #CardiacRegeneration #CardiacRehabilitation #Cardiomyopathies #CardiovascularDrugs #CardiovascularTherapy #CardiovascularAnatomy #CongenitalHeartDefects

📢 Thrilled to share our latest research article on #LeftVentricularRemodeling in patients with #LowFlow #AorticStenosis undergoing #TAVR, published in The American Journal of Cardiology! 📚✨ 🚀 Key Highlights: 🚨 Maladaptive LV Remodeling: A stronger independent predictor of heart failure hospitalization and all-cause mortality than LVEF in elderly patients with low-flow aortic stenosis undergoing TAVR. 🔥 Gender-Neutral Risk: The increased risk of adverse outcomes in patients with maladaptive LV remodeling is significant for both women and men. 🩺 Enhanced Risk Stratification: Integrating LV remodeling assessment into risk stratification is crucial, especially for elderly patients with low-flow AS, who are often less symptomatic. 📖 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eKirgAvJ Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

great article by #KarstenKeller and #OmarHahad of the #Department of #Cardiology, #UniversityMedicalCenterMainz, concerning myocardial infarction (MI) in Germany and the role of socioeconomic and psychosocial factors (SPF) impact on treatments and outcomes. Results: - MI patients with SPF had an aggravated cardiovascular profile. - SPF was not associated with an underuse of interventional treatments, but with lower CABG rate. - SPF was not associated with increased in-hospital case-fatality in MI. https://lnkd.in/enaN7pqX

Time to Tweak the Definition of Type 2 Myocardial Infarction. Recently published in the The American Journal of Cardiology, I believe it is important to redefine the definition of Type 2 MI, as it is presently too subject to individual interpretation. 📊 **New Insights on Sudden Death Rates After Myocardial Infarction** Exciting developments in cardiology research highlight significant advancements in the management of patients after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). A recent Brief Report in JAMA Cardiology, featuring the VALIANT and PARADISE-MI trials, revealed a 2- to 3-fold reduction in sudden death/resuscitated cardiac arrest (RCA) rates among patients experiencing left ventricular dysfunction or pulmonary congestion, compared to data from 20 years ago. 🔍 **Key Findings:** - The highest risk of sudden death after AMI occurs within the first month, with rates declining rapidly thereafter. - Contemporary management strategies, including percutaneous coronary intervention, and improved medication regimens, have markedly enhanced patient outcomes. 🌟 **Clinical Relevance:** This progress underscores the importance of continuous advancements in treatment protocols. However, the need for additional interventions to protect patients within that critical first month remains a priority. The findings serve as a call to action for further innovations in cardioprotective strategies. To all healthcare professionals, researchers, and innovators—your efforts are making a tangible difference in reducing mortality rates and improving quality of life for patients worldwide. 🔗 [Read the full report here](https://lnkd.in/dWPurPDY) #Cardiology #HealthcareInnovation #ClinicalResearch #PatientOutcomes #JAMACardiology

💓 Cardiac device therapy can save lives, but for patients with chronic kidney disease (#CKD), it’s a delicate balance. While devices like CRT and ICDs boost heart function, CKD complicates things, making it a love-hate relationship. This update by Dr. Adrian Covic et al dives into the balancing act between managing arrhythmias and protecting kidney health. From reducing heart failure symptoms to tackling the heightened infection risks in dialysis patients, it’s clear that when the heart and kidneys get involved, it’s never a simple story. ⤵ https://lnkd.in/g3QbiDKA Grigore T.
