Two-Minute Tech: Putting the tech news into perspective "To VC or not VC: with AI, that is the question" Today’s AI revolution is unlike previous disruption cycles in two key ways: AI startups need massive amounts of resources to build their technology, but venture capital (VC) firms are being stingy with funding. - Compared with technology giants, AI startups face significant operational challenges due to limited resources and restricted access to capital. - Microsoft played a crucial role in resolving the internal battle at OpenAI, leveraging its ownership stake and infrastructure support. - Public equity markets offer opportunities to capitalise on the growth potential of AI-related applications. $1 Billion Fund Raising Round At $14 Billion Valuation!!! Scale AI (2016): is playing a key role in the rise of generative artificial intelligence and large language models, with the data — whether it is text, images, video, or voice recordings — needing to be labeled correctly before it can be digested and used effectively by AI technology. Fund Raised: $1.6 Billion Investors: Y Combinator, Founders Fund, Accel, Tiger Global Management, Meta, Amazon, Nvidia, AMD, Index Ventures. Scale AI provides human workers and software services that help companies label and test data for AI model training, a critical step in getting AI to be effective. For Scale AI, that business is growing quickly as corporate customers race to adopt products related to generative AI—so much so that a whopping 90% of its business is now driven by that spending on that subset of AI. Earlier this year, Scale was awarded a contract by the Department of Defense to test and evaluate various AI models. Top tech companies are racing to build AI into their products and services. Startups catering to the surge in demand for AI chips and machine learning have been a bright spot in an otherwise subdued private funding market. Conclusion: Corporations are looking to invest in startups with high valuations to be part of AI which is going to be everywhere soon. #scaleai #startups #ycombinator #accel #meta #amazon #nvidia #ai #artificialintelligence
