The first phase of the Koç Finans Orange Wings Mentoring Program, conducted in collaboration with universities, has concluded, as part of Koç Holding A.Ş.'s commitment to #genderequality in technology and innovation, in line with its global leadership at the United Nations Women Generation Equality Forum. Under this project, mentorship and internship opportunities were provided to female students recommended by universities and meeting specific criteria. During the online graduation program, where the program's first graduates received their certificates, Özlem Ekşioğlu Kumuk, the Director of IT and R&D at Koc Finansman A.S., said, "We are aware that due to gender biases in society, women can be disadvantaged in fields such as engineering, technology, and innovation, and these societal judgments can lead to a loss of self-confidence in young women aspiring to shape their careers in these fields. With this in mind, we launched the Orange Wings Mentoring Program to encourage talented, hardworking, and idealistic young women studying at universities in Anatolia. During the intensive 10-month training period, we encouraged young people to focus on the areas they want to pursue in their professional lives. We also included some participants in the #Koçfinans team by providing internship opportunities as part of the program. "More female role models are key to inspiring the next generation of commodities talent."   That was one of the clear messages when we spoke to some of our female leaders across Engelhart as part of Women's History Month earlier in the year. It's also a view strongly shared by 100 Women In Finance, a global non-profit organisation. Through their network of people and resources, 100 Women In Finance is committed to gender equity in the finance industry by promoting diversity, raising visibility, and empowering women to achieve their professional potential at each career stage. And we're delighted they are supporting our first Internships for graduates and undergraduates that we launched last week. It's no secret that our industry has historically been male-dominated. That's now changing slowly, and we've done some important work at Engelhart in recent years; we also know there's much more to do.   As a global commodity trading business, we believe it's our responsibility to step up and help create the change we need. Our 2024 Internships will give a diverse group of applicants who may not be considering a job in commodities the opportunity to get some exposure to our industry. That includes reaching young women earlier to demonstrate how inclusive and empowering a career in commodities trading can be. Channelling our powers the right way!

It was energizing , enjoyable and empowering to take Powerful to the students of Vedica Scholars Program for women. The unique aspect of the Vedica Program is the Personal growth track which focuses on Understanding the self- the most important aspect of leadership. It was a pleasure to hear the stories of these young women- they too face the 4 strategies of Deter, Diminish, Decorate and Divide that keep women from power but have the strength and resilience to overcome the obstacles that come their way. We discussed how they could use the powers in communication and career planning. We talked, shared, danced and walked to learn and evoke the power we need. I was thrilled and touched by the impact of the six feminine powers. A student who was reserved and hesitant spoke up in front of the class using her Apsara power Another had used her Rani energies to organize her routine and get more disciplined. A student shared how she toned down her Veera power with the Kanya energy to be more mindful of other people and their needs while communicating. As a faculty and a member of the advisory board at Vedica, I was delighted to engage with these bright, brave, articulate keen scholars. I believe that these women will make a mark in their careers. During my #EIR session at INSEAD yesterday, I had two female MBA students seeking post-MBA career advice 🔈. Both of them interned in the same consulting firm, but none of them was hired after the internship. Happy World Youth Skills Day! In light of the multitude of challenges facing the world, it is crucial to equip young people with skills for employment. As a large, global company, Elkem has social responsibility. At our plant in Kristiansand, Norway, we are working with the municipality, the county council, the business association, and NAV (Norwegian Labour and Welfare organization), to help young people outside of the workforce and school find jobs.   Through the project, called “Young Start”, students who drop out of school for various reasons have been offered a summer job with Elkem. The students are offered a different approach to learning and help to find their way into the workforce. Some even enter apprentice contracts and stay with Elkem. Our type of industry will need many new workers in the future, and we believe that this project is a good way to showcase what we are working on.   This project represents one of our core values – inclusion. We want everyone to be included in the workforce and we are pleased to have found a solution that benefits both the youths representing our future and us.

December 2023, I declared that 2024 will be my year of growth, and created a vision board inspired by Habakkuk 2:2 (“Write the vision, make it plain, so he may run with it, he who reads it”.) On my vision board I included networking events, internships etc. Yesterdays “Women in TEC” event with Bright Network was my first step. On my way there, James Clear’s “Atomic Habit” echoed in my mind: “small habits now, lead to big impacts later.” I saw this event as one of those impactful habits, and it did not disappoint! I met amazing young women with similar aspirations, creating an energised space with shared goals. I learnt about amazing opportunities from companies such as NatWest Group, S&P Global , JLR , Deutsche Bank TradingHub etc. The true highlight of the event was learning from inspiring females: •Adriana Ciocoiu “ never let anyone lower your voice” • Lisa Neilson “ Be your own cheerleader “ • Kari-Anne Clayton who gave 6 tips (or nuggets) some of my favourite were: - careers aren’t linear, comparison is the greatest thief of joy. -you don’t choose who looks up to you, you may be someone’s role model without realising it. - don’t worry about the destination, focus on the journey (that’s the real prize). After this event I feel confident and empowered.
