Let’s Talk About Mental Health As we wrap up the year, I’ve been reflecting on the importance of mental health - not just in the workplace, but in every aspect of our lives. In my role as a Senior Farm Safety Advisor with the Victorian Farmers Federation’s Making Our Farms Safer program, I see firsthand how tough life on the land can be. Long hours, isolation, financial pressures, and the relentless demands of farming all take a toll on mental health. The need to support each other has never been greater. That’s why we are proud about the launch of ‘Harvesting Change: the Rural Mental Health Handbook’ a resources that has been developed to help our farming community navigate the unique challenges they face, with practical tools and strategies to support mental well-being. The handbook is part of our ongoing commitment to Making Our Farms Safer and ensuring the well-being of those who work tirelessly to put food on our tables. This concern is deeply personal to me. Whether it’s ensuring a safe and supportive workplace, promoting conversations around mental health at home, or planning ways to prioritise self-care, we all have a role to play.
