Our latest work is published Chemical Science Journal from Qiao Tang Ruben Tomas , at Manchester Institute of Biotechnology . We investigated non-viral (polymer) #genedelivery , but instead of optimising the carrier to target the cells, we engineered the cell to capture the carrier. We used metabolic #glycan engineering to install azides to cell surfaces, which could then form covalent bonds to capture the gene delivery vector. We saw increased uptake, transaction and more transfected cells compared to controls with the biggest effect being with just 10 minutes exposure time! We are continuing to explore how editing cell Glycans can be used in #biotechnology. Read the work here.
