I still remember when we started to craft embossing tools for tobacco packaging in 2010. We were shocked… It was still common practice to order new bases for each new design. Something we overcame already in the early 2000s for printing cylinders and we established a robust recycling system. Why? Plastic packaging: thickness and printing guidelines Its been 8 years since the #EPR in India and Plastic Waste Management Rules #PWMRules were notified by the MoEF&CC. There have been 8 major amendments to them and many more notification/guidelines/sops to make the rules easier thanks to the #grievanceredressal by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and #MoEFCC. However the #confusion around what to print, how much thickness to maintain still prevails. Though the recommended thickness is #50microns for end use plastic packaging, many companies use #75microns due to this confusion. This eventually leads to cost escalations. Also given the frequent changes in rules themselves, it becomes very tedious for companies to maintain uniformity in marking and labelling instructions as these are associated with #cylinders. Any abrupt change in this can lead to severe cost escalations and hence many companies deliberately avoid frequent changes in printing.
