New home sales rose 1.5% in January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 661,000 units. That pace is just under the 2023 sales rate, when 666,000 new homes were sold. The number of completed new homes for sale at the end of January stood at 80,000, the highest level since the onset of the pandemic.
