Did you know this? ⤵️ Burning only seasoned firewood in your fireplace is essential for a cleaner burn while protecting your chimney from buildup and potential hazards. So how can you tell if your firewood is good to go?? Firewood is considered seasoned when its moisture content is 20% or lower, which can take a minimum of six months. The easiest way to tell if your firewood is ready is to use a moisture meter (there are some reasonably priced options on Amazon!) If you don't have a moisture meter handy - look for these signs instead... 🪵 Check the color - Seasoned firewood can have a grayish appearance and may have small cracks or splits on the ends. 🪵 The bark comes off easily - Loose or easily peeled bark can indicate dryness. Green or freshly cut wood typically has tight bark that is firmly attached. 🪵 It is lighter in weight - Seasoned wood is significantly lighter than green wood of the same size. 🪵 It sounds hollow - Try tapping the wood or knocking two pieces together. Seasoned wood has a hollow or ringing sound, while green wood will produce a dull thud. Ready to enjoy the perfect fire with confidence? Make sure your firewood checks all the boxes! And if you're ever in doubt or need a helping hand, we're just a call away. 📲 (317) 299-2229 #firesafety #fireplacesafety #homemaintenance #firewood #thefireplacecenterofindianapolis

For those that use firewood, I use a cheap and easy fire starter that you might want to try. I though it might be nice to share. It works especially well when you have a not so straight chimney and need to build heat at the beginning in order to create sufficient draft. I put coarse sawdust in a sealable (against the smell) bucket and saturate it in cheap kerosine. After mixing well and making sure all keroine is absorbed, the mix is ready to use. I scoop a good handfull on the stacked firewood with some starter wood on top (I use the swiss method for starting fires). Advantage is that you immediately have good fire and draught with less smoke. As it is kerosine (or lampoil) it is save to use and light as it behaves like lighting an oillamp. Give it a try...

Extend your outdoor fun with the cozy warmth of a patio heater, but remember safety matters! Here are some key points: • Heat Up the Outdoors Only: Always use your patio heater outside in a well-ventilated area. • Cylinders Stay Outdoors Too: Never store propane cylinders indoors. They should be kept upright in a secure location outside. • Secure Your Tanks: Protect your propane cylinders with a locked cage or fenced-in area. This keeps them safe from tampering and potential impact. • Storing Indoors? Remove the Tank: If security is an absolute concern, remove the propane cylinder before storing your patio heater indoors. By following these simple tips, you can enjoy the warmth and ambiance of your patio heater all season long, with safety in mind. #PropaneSafety #CanadianPropane #PatioHeaterSafety https://lnkd.in/e9zddihr
