Welcome to our "How to Save a Place" toolkit series! In this series, we'll cover a lot of ground: managing your expectations during a preservation project; understanding the difference between federal, state, and local groups; learning the fundraising basics; sorting through the various types of historic designations, and more. To get started, we need to begin thinking like an advocate, because getting other people to support your project—from your friends and neighbors to government officials—will be critical to the success of your preservation efforts. Where are these supposed parents contacting the commissioners, voicing their complaints? The commissioners, in actuality, do not use the library (assuming they even have a card, which many do not), do not know the ROI of the county's American Library Association membership, or even care about the importance of libraries to the community. What's worst is the silence from library staff. How can you stay silent when actions such as this completely undermine your ability to do your job to it's fullest? The counties and states are going to see the true cost of their actions when line items will have to be added to budgets to compensate for the loss of good and services, and if they don't fund these items, watch the decline in library offerings and the outrage from the communities that will follow. https://lnkd.in/e-UDXkgv

We need your help! 📣 The California State Library Parks Pass may be losing funding this year. Despite the program's proven success and cost-effectiveness, without new funding, libraries will be unable to provide new passes for checkout after December 31, severely limiting park access. Tell your legislator to restore funding for this popular and effective park access program! 👉 Learn more at https://ow.ly/kqOF50RIPEs. #CalParksAdvocacy #CAStateParks #CAStateLibraryParksPass

Digital platforms are an important component of your fundraising toolbox, but as Joseph Tumolo, CAP® points out, they should never replace the old-fashioned telephone call. Just smile ... and dial! https://lnkd.in/ekAtzZZ4

A few folks have asked about my new banner. The lighter side shows my city Sacramento! California capital since 1854. In case you’ve never been to the area here are a few pictures! . Notice in the last picture the quick transition from tall buildings to suburbs, farmlands, and grassland. One of Sacramento’s original names was City of plains. . #sacramento #sacramentoca #grantwriting #grantwriter #grantconsultant #grantmaking #homeandliving #grasslands

Did you know that non-profit organizations, government agencies, individuals looking for housing, and university students enjoy complimentary access to the National Housing Preservation Database (NHPD)? The NHPD is an address-level inventory of federally assisted rental housing in the US. The agencies and departments that fund these programs have data on the individual programs that they manage, but there was no central location where all of these data are integrated. This made it difficult to get a clear picture of the current stock of public and affordable housing in a community. It also means those who wish to preserve public and affordable housing in their community could not easily get the information they need about particular properties. The NHPD was created to address these issues. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g799YTVS
