A lot of resumes I see are full of "fluff". Here's some easy wins to instantly improve your resume. ❌Things to avoid putting on your resume❌ - Team player - Highly organized - Great communication skills - Performs well under pressure - Photo of yourself (No need for this in North America - plus your LinkedIn profile would have this) The list goes on.....these are statements that don't tell recruiters or managers anything about your accomplishments. For hiring teams, these things are table stakes. 💡Things to focus on instead💡 - Numbers/stats validating your experience and contribution - How something you did improved efficiency in your teams day to day work - Small 1-2 sentence description of what your current/past employer does/did (under your title and dates of employment) - Link to your LinkedIn profile #resumewriting #resumetips
Great post Adam Briglio. I like the term 'above the fold' which was a newspaper concept but has moved to website design, and I'd argue needs to apply to resumes. The idea, is, that the top 1/3 of the page needs to quickly convert viewers, to continue reading, otherwise they won't keep scrolling (for newspaper it was unfolding). To your point, the "fluff" you mentioned, often uses the most valuable space.
I love this. "Small 1-2 sentence description of what your current/past employer does/did (under your title and dates of employment)" Been recommending this for years but it divides a room!
Do you think summary statements are still needed? I find a lot of the same “action” words are still being used by people to describe who they are.

8moOmg those are things that people used before the internet was invented. The world is drastically different. Technically even is a CV is now considered very outdated. These days you should have some form of tangible medium coupled with reviews available publicly for anyone to read and view. It cuts the mud away for shoppers and lets be real. A lot folks lie on their CV so whats the point of reading them in a tech world where we can see what you're made of. If you're not at that level of creative show and tell. Then you will likely get the bottom feeder roles.
