172 years of medical science, research and innovation at GOSH! 🎂 🎈 Over the years, GOSH has experienced many world-firsts and breakthroughs! 🔬 In 2020, the secure Digital Research Environment (DRE) at DRIVE, allowed allowed GOSH to set up a rapid COVID-19 profiling platform. This had a global impact as the single largest study of COVID-19 in children and the only study reporting on COVID-19 infection in children with underlying high-risk vulnerabilities. 🌍 DRIVE is continuing to harness-the-power-of-data to improve outcomes for children and young people with rare and complex diseases 🧬 Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eWzT4D4G
Happy 172nd Birthday, GOSH!🎉 That's 172 years of leaps in medical science, research and innovation.🧬 Since opening in 1852 as the first hospital in the UK to offer dedicated care to children, we've experienced many world-firsts and exciting breakthroughs at GOSH. Our GOSH teams have pioneered the first heart and lung bypass machine, treated ‘incurable’ leukaemia and set up a rapid COVID-19 profiling platform with a global impact for children with rare diseases. None of this is possible without the hard work and expertise of our staff here at GOSH.💙 See the progress we've made in pictures: https://lnkd.in/eTcuPe3u Thank you Russell Square station for the birthday wishes! 🎉 👏

What’s missing from HLTH? The conference brings together some of the biggest names in healthcare, from top executives and politicians to celebrities (Halle Berry, Lenny Kravitz, and others this year). It’s a spectacle that's surely full of insight. But are we missing something important? As a practicing orthopedic surgeon with 15+ years on the frontlines, I believe the conversation needs more voices from those who live and breathe patient care every day. In this week's The Surgeon's Record presented by Commons Clinic, I share what I would have said at HLTH 2024 if given the opportunity to speak. I dive into the gaps between the C-suite and the clinic, the promise (and pitfalls) of AI, and how we can really make value-based care work. 👉 Check out "Un-HLTH-y" for my take on what’s missing at healthcare’s biggest conference, and what needs to change. Read, comment, and share. #healthcare #health #healthtech #hlth2024 #medicine #aiinhealthcare #valuebasedcare

Recognized International Leader and Speaker on Race, Gender and Ethnic Diversity and Inclusion and Implicit Bias
Black Maternal Mortality Rate: Improving Outcomes for Black Mothers Using Legislation That Reverses the Effects of Structural Racism in Medicine Ms. Pattain asserts "Improving the maternal mortality rate for Black women needs to happen and with proposed legislation already in place it is possible. With an improved maternal mortality rate in the most vulnerable population, there will be a ripple effect throughout maternal health care and improve the rate for all women. With one of the highest maternal mortality rates among the developed countries, this is a statistic the U.S. needs to improve. Not only is it a necessity but the United States has the resources to make it happen. The U.S. has a long history of using law and policy to improve the lives of vulnerable citizens. The health care space has seen a lot of this in recent years with the passing of the ACA. When an industry is producing outcomes that continuously negatively affect people, greater regulation can help improve those outcomes. With this issue, we have seen that one of the biggest contributing factors is race and how the treatment of Black mothers is negatively affected by the implicit bias of health care professionals. In a country where race has and is still used to divide people it is also presenting issues in the care that women are receiving. With bills already proposed and resources that have been used in this work for decades, it is time we utilize both of these things to fix a problem that we are capable of addressing."
Just a moment...

This is a great read on understanding how moving towards a value based care model must include the important role Radiology plays in a patients course of treatment and wellness. “By ignoring the critical role radiology plays in patient care, health care organizations are jeopardizing the cost and quality of care for any patient in a value-based arrangement.”
Wholeheartedly agree, Aaron Friedkin, MD !!
