Enabling Industrial OEM across the Globe with Manufacturing, Development, and Supply Chain Solutions. | Faster Delivery | Better Price | Higher Quality |
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗙𝗠𝗘𝗔 ? 𝐀𝐬 𝐚 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲. One tool that has been extremely valuable in my work is Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (𝐏𝐅𝐌𝐄𝐀). 𝐏𝐅𝐌𝐄𝐀 is a systematic method for identifying and evaluating the potential failure modes and their causes in a manufacturing or assembly process and the effects of those failures on the end product. The goal of a 𝐏𝐅𝐌𝐄𝐀 is to identify and prioritize potential failure modes based on their likelihood and impact and to develop and implement corrective actions to prevent or mitigate those failures. A 𝐏𝐅𝐌𝐄𝐀 typically involves a team of cross-functional experts who analyze each step in the process and identify the potential failure modes and their causes, as well as the effects of those failures on the end product. The team then assigns a risk priority number (RPN) to each failure mode based on the likelihood and impact of the failure and develops and implements corrective actions to reduce the RPN to an acceptable level. 𝐏𝐅𝐌𝐄𝐀 can be an effective tool for improving product quality, reducing warranty costs, and improving customer satisfaction by identifying and addressing potential problems with a manufacturing or assembly process before they occur. It is often used in conjunction with other quality improvement tools, such as design reviews, process control plans, and production part approval processes (PPAP).
