Welcome to Althea’s — New York City’s Home for Women’s Sports! We have been so overwhelmed by the love and support of this community in the last few weeks since creating this page and beginning to spread the word. While we certainly did not expect 500+ followers across platforms and hundreds of newsletter sign ups before even making a post, we cannot be all too surprised due to the passion and kindness of the women’s sports community here in New York. We want to extend the most sincere thank you to everyone who has followed, shared, posted, told your friends, and joined in on the excitement of Althea’s. We cannot wait to take you along with us over the coming months on the journey toward opening day! Help support Althea’s by sharing this post and commenting which teams you are most excited to watch with us! We look forward to meeting all of our ‘Friends of Althea’ at the bar soon 🗽

Community in sports has always been a thing. Whether it’s celebrating when your team wins, or ruminating over a devastating missed goal, sports have always had a way of bringing us together. It increases meaningful connections and social bonds and, for the teams themselves, this can in turn translate to more people coming to more games. The thing is, as our countries become more diverse, in order to foster a community, sports organizations need to recognize the unique needs of each of its members. Check out our latest blog post to learn how to effectively foster community in sports. Read the highlights below, and the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/gDqwqiZY #redcatmarketing #sportsmarketing

Manc Sport — 'All sports for all sorts' Our first 30 days - Five figures of traffic which we first managed inside two weeks. Over five figures of unique visitors. These figures were on the higher side of what we were thinking and we think that even publications with more resources behind them then us would be impressed with these results. We aren't even indexed on search engines yet. We were one of the first publications to report on the mass lay-offs by the British Basketball League, did athlete profiles of Greater Manchester Olympians and documented several sporting events including words, photos and video. All of us are volunteers, we have some great perks for volunteers but the plan is to build our audience and monitise to pay people. We now have 20 people who believe in what we are trying to do and have contributed in some way to Manc Sport. We have published around 320 articles incorporating over 20 sports, taken thousands of photographs and hours of video since starting. We are looking for corporate partners who want to be part of a holistic sports media publication that champions grassroots to professional levels, women in sports, disability sports and sports sustainability. This is just the start. #MancSport #AllSportsForAllSorts

As social beings, sports is an integral part of our society with respect to making connections and community and social engagement. Sport is one of the most celebrated, popular, treasured, income-generating, policy-making, and nation-and-character-building sector. It's discontinuation can inhibit human from physical interaction or socialization, in turn engendering the decline in mental health. Participating in street sports was a regular part of growing up, for most of my generation and it provided us opportunity to make friends and building stronger bonds within neighborhood. Sadly, our children don't have this interaction. Alhamdulillah, I have provided sports consultancy/management service to many clients especially housing societies from establishing sports centres to starting sports programs for all ages, genders and levels. These activities will be great opportunities for community engagement, interaction, and enriching the experience of life or work within the community and organization. I would like to assist sports organizations/individuals achieve their goals.

Customer Experience, Leadership and Change -- Proven Human-First Approach to Driving Growth and Building Exceptional Teams
Today is National Girls & Women in Sports Day #NGWSD. As a mom of all boys, I believe in the power of sports for all kids and young people – and from my personal experience, I feel strongly about the power of sports in the lives of girls and young women. I attribute so much of who I am today to my participation through the years. Major advancements have been made toward equality in sports but we have a long way to go! -------------------------------------------------------------- From The GIST : Since 1987, NGWSD has evolved into a multifaceted day dedicated to acknowledging women’s history in sports, celebrating current achievements, and recommitting to the continued fight for equality. It is also about highlighting the countless positive impacts of girls’ sports participation. While youth involvement in sports is rebounding from its COVID-19–induced dip, there’s still a long way to go: Only 36% of kids played regularly in 2022. -- Girls’ participation is slowly increasing, but the gender gap persists — 34.5% of girls played regularly in 2022, compared to 40.2% of boys. -- Plus, by age 14, girls drop out of sports at twice the rate of boys due to barriers like lack of access, social stigma, costs, etc.. With those stats in mind, it’s even more important to spotlight how game-changing sports are for girls, pun intended. Along with learning essential life skills like teamwork and leadership, girls who play sports are more likely to have higher levels of self-esteem and lower levels of depression. ****** And those impacts transfer to life beyond sport. A 2015 study found that 80% of female executives at Fortune 500 companies played competitive sports before suiting up for the boardroom.

Interesting ideas about creating a new governmental agency to manage youth sports: https://lnkd.in/guz6pJZU. Not so thrilled with a governmental "Office of Sports and Health" as it smacks of fascist indoctrination, but if there's a solution that allows for wider access to all of the benefits associated with youth sports, I am interested.
