As we see more and more economic investment in North Carolina, it’s important to remember that they don’t always work out. Announcing a project is the easy part. Following it through to completion is much harder. Case in point: Less than 18 months ago, Arizona-based SunTree Snack Foods announced it’d be investing more than $10 million into a Goldsboro plant and create close to 100 jobs in the process. But earlier this month, the company filed a WARN notice with North Carolina Department of Commerce, indicating that it’ll be shuttering off its Goldsboro facility and laying off the dozens of workers who work at the facility. There are projects on the horizon with far bigger investment figures and massive state incentive packages. We’ll see how they turn out. #ICYMI: We may be upon a turning point for the heavily consolidated grocery industry. Co-ops are a viable path to increasing food security across the nation and reinvest at higher rates into local economies. As Congress works to reauthorize the Farm Bill, policymakers should look to this time-tested model to address food access issues, particularly for rural communities. Industry Alert: Red Lobster Faces Financial Challenges Red Lobster, once a giant in the seafood restaurant chain, is reportedly preparing for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, according to The Wall Street Journal. This development follows a week marked by the sudden closure of up to 99 locations nationwide and the appearance of their kitchen equipment on liquidation websites. The New York Times highlights that Red Lobster has been financially struggling for some time, exacerbated by last year's unlimited shrimp promotion which reportedly pushed the company deeper into financial distress. This news arrives as a significant signal to the industry, reflecting the potential end of 'all-you-can-eat' promotions that many of us remember fondly from chains like Red Lobster and others during our childhoods. It raises important questions about the sustainability of such business models in today's economic climate. #RedLobster #Bankruptcy #RestaurantIndustry #BusinessModels #EconomicChallenges #linkedinnews #linkedincommunity

'Danish Crown is in the midlle of a crisis' as per Euromeatnews.com. Unfortunately, Danish Crown in not the only meat producer in Europe that is finding itself in difficulties. High costs and low availability of live animals are at the front of the meat industry's challenges as a whole in the EU. Closings, sales and reorganisations are ongoing in France and Germany. In another article, Euromeatnews.com mentions that Argentine will export a record in beef in 2025. The EU market is clearly struggling to remain competitive to producers elsewhere. La Cantina is your partner for supplying high quality category 3 animal raw materials. Check out our website www.cantina.be for more info. #Euromeatnews #meatindustry #petfood #rawmaterials #supplychain #category3 #petfoodindustry

You may have heard around the water cooler that Red Lobster filed for bankruptcy because of a misguided endless shrimp promotion. This isn't true, but the details of the story that have been reported are actually very interesting, with terms like "private equity" and "sale-leaseback", and tales of a seafood supplier getting too big for its britches. (The endless shrimp promotion does play a part btw). Any valuable business insights here? One thing that stood out to me is that businesses are getting super creative at finding ways to make money. For example, did you know that a vendor can become the majority shareholder of its customer, and then at least partially control what that customer buys from it? Yikes... It made me reflect on how beneficial it can be for us as business owners to harness some of that human ingenuity and creativity to continue bringing value to our customers.

Heaven Hill Brands' recent strategy to offer retirement buyouts and reduce its workforce at the Bardstown bottling plant, where iconic brands like #EvanWilliams and #ElijahCraig are bottled signals a broader industry recalibration in response to a ~softening~ market. This move aligns with a broader global trend of distillers adjusting operations as the surge in spirit sales over the last 5 years normalizes and consumers face economic challenges like inflation and high-interest rates. With Kentucky's ageing bourbon inventory nearing 13 million barrels, the global scale of ageing whiskey stocks could reshape the industry. This presents a complex scenario: while potentially leading to price adjustments due to surplus, it also opens doors for innovation in production, ageing, and barrel management techniques - like what we're building BAXUS. As distillers begin to navigate changes in demand and a new market landscape, their strategies will undoubtedly influence global whiskey markets and consumer trends. #WhiskeyIndustry #Bourbon #MarketTrends #HeavenHill
