Helping academics to achieve sustainable success in their research so that can enjoy a balanced and fulfilling life.
I must be best at what I do! As a PI you are excellent, having navigated the demanding landscape of academia to secure funding and pursue your own research. Your achievements often define your career, grant opportunities, and contributions to your fields. However, this drive can sometimes transform into an insatiable need for success and validation, often at the expense of personal well-being and authentic connections. It can drive you to constantly chase the next accolade, paper, or grant, leading to burnout and a loss of fulfilment. Recognising this is the first step towards cultivating a healthier, more sustainable approach to work. Here are a few strategies to consider: 1. Self-Awareness: Regularly reflect on your motivations. Are they driven by genuine passion and curiosity, or an external need for validation? 2. Balance: Prioritise personal well-being and work-life balance. Success in research should not come at the cost of your health or happiness. 3. Authentic Connections: Build meaningful relationships with colleagues, students, and collaborators. Genuine connections can provide support and perspective beyond professional achievements. 4. Celebrate Progress: Acknowledge and celebrate small victories and milestones, not just the major accomplishments. This can help maintain motivation and a positive outlook. Use these strategies to create a more fulfilling and impactful research environment, fostering innovation and well-being for yourself and your team. Strive for excellence, but not at the cost of well-being. Embrace the journey, not just the destination.

Dear Colleagues, In the context of the 2nd Transatlantic Symposium on Sustainable Development in Higher Education, to be held in Hasselt, Belgium, on 10th-11th October 2024, whose details can be seen here: https://lnkd.in/eUJtATcP , we have noticed that some colleagues from North America (Canada, Mexico and the United States) want to contribute to the event, but have been unable to mobilise the resources for travel and accommodation to attend it. Therefore, in order to provide these colleagues with an opportunity to contribute, we are planning the "Transatlantic Hand Shake" session on the afternoon of Thursday, 10th October 2024. What does this mean? It means that colleagues who want to make their presentations online can do so. The only requirement is that they have registered and paid the fees. This may facilitate their participation since they are saving the funds they would otherwise need for travel and accommodation. How does it work? Interested colleagues should send their abstracts to FTZ-Events@haw-hamburg.de by 15th July 2024. Once the abstracts are accepted, the selected delegates will be asked to register and pay the registration fees, as all other delegates do. This being done, they will be given a presentation slot as part of the "Transatlantic Hand Shake" session in the afternoon of Thursday, 10th October 2024. Also, they will be able to submit their papers to the book "Introducing the UN SDGs in Higher Education Institutions", to be published by Springer Nature as part of the World Sustainability Series: https://lnkd.in/e9MXBiJT in the same way as all other delegates will. What is next? As outlined above, colleagues from North America who wish to take advantage of this opportunity should send their Abstracts to us. The details can then be discussed with each person. Best Regards, The Organisation Team
📢 Last Call for Abstracts! 📢 Do you still want to join us? Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity! 🗓️ Deadline: June 30th Looking forward to meeting you in Hasselt in October!
