In addition to being Breast Cancer Awareness Month 😍 October is also a month to recognize and support the victims of domestic violence. According to National Statistics: "1 in 4 women experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc." As a survivor, I feel it is my duty to advocate for these women. That is why I am proud to have signed the pledge against domestic violence and encourage all of you to do so as well 💜 When you are being victimized, you begin to believe that you are responsible for the abuse, that somehow what is happening is your fault, and that the abuser doesn't really mean to hurt you. It is incredibly difficult to see through the veil of bruises, insults, and control. After suffering three miscarriages and countless incidents of violence, I finally said enough is enough. With the help of some superbly phenomenal women and my now husband, I was able to alleviate myself from the circumstances of abuse and start to heal from the trauma. Show encouragement to those women who are still in the throes of violence and in need of a support system. Advocate against the vile victimization of the female population. Urge people to raise their spirits rather than their fists. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the rate of pregnancy-related deaths among black women is nearly 43 per 100,000 live births, versus 13 such deaths among white women. Black women’s babies also have a mortality rate more than twice as high as for white infants. Other women of color, especially American Indian and Alaska Native women, also experience serious maternal death disparities, but the black-white gap is the starkest. Yesterday I looked at the top causes of death for men ages 45-54 and today I took a look at the data for women ages 45-54. Some observations are: 1. Common factors were Covid-19, alcoholism, cancer and accidental poisoning. 2. Intentional self harm for this group isn't present in the top 10. 3. As expected for rates of deaths are lower for women in this age group compared to men. 4. But self harm shows up in women ages 15-24.
