Bird flu has been detected in pet cats, marking a significant development as the virus can now potentially spread to domestic animals. While the risk to humans remains low, pet owners should be vigilant and take precautions to protect their cats and themselves from potential infection.

Building the next generation of leaders in the fields of Public Health Nutrition and Veterinary Public Health
"One Health is an approach that recognizes that the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment. One Health is not new, but it has become more important in recent years. This is because many factors have changed interactions between people, animals, plants, and our environment." Check out this link for more information about One Health and how many professions are included in the approach to improving the health of people, animals, and the environment. Part of the Online Master of Public Health program at Utah State University focuses on the One Health Approach, including a course solely dedicated to understanding its principles and how these three areas of public health are closely linked to one another. https://lnkd.in/g-fSz-HT

In the fast-paced world of academia, where success is often measured by publications and citations, it's easy to lose sight of what truly matters. Also, the demands in the field of research can be extremely overwhelming-- long hours, constant pressure to publish, and the ever-present fear of failure can take a toll on even the strongest minds. Through the wonderful journey of being in touch with an animal or rescuing one, researchers emerge stronger, more compassionate, and better equipped to face the challenges that lie ahead. Amidst the chaos, the simple act of caring for an animal can serve as a powerful antidote to stress and anxiety. Read More: Link in Comment Section Repost from my article at: https://lnkd.in/dxiX3tYp

In today's Maine Sunday Telegram, I write about Mainer Zoe Weil's latest book, The Solutionary Way. The book offers a framework of how to think about systemic problems, investigate potential solutions and evaluate which solutions to implement. It's a method that has been taught by the Surry-based Institute for Humane Education in Maine schools and in schools around the world. “Solutionary” is a term Weil coined to describe a person who seeks to solve systemic problems in a way that does “the most good and least harm for people, animals, and the environment.” It can also be an adjective used to describe such solutions. A distinguishing feature of solutionary thinking is the inclusion of animals in its ethical equation. https://lnkd.in/gk-RGaUS
