“‘Please do the same leadership training for my #boss!’ This is a common request after sessions. It’s understandable! If the suggested behaviors resonate with participants as the right approach, they naturally want others to adopt the same mindset. If their supervisors can genuinely apply these principles, it can help reinforce effective behavioral changes for everyone involved. However🤔, you can’t #change your boss, but you can #influence them. If you execute these practices well, #trust that your boss will notice and may follow your lead. 💡Finally, don’t focus on ‘#fixing’ anyone—just as you wouldn’t want others to ‘fix’ you. Completely solving a problem or changing someone is no easy task. Instead of saying something is your #personality trait or natural behavioral tendency, let’s look at it through the lens of #needs. While I’m not an expert in personality traits, I’ve gained some general understanding. In my #collaborative leadership workshops, I often encourage participants to frame their personality traits as being driven by needs. Why? Because when we label something as a tendency and embrace it too much, it can easily become an excuse to overlook others’ needs. For example, you might be #dominant because you need control and speed. You’re #influential because you need recognition and buy-in. You’re #steady because you need harmony, and #conscientious because you need details. Once you understand your needs, you begin to realize that they won’t automatically be met. You must explore and address others’ needs first if you want people to care about yours. As the saying goes, “seek first to understand, then to be understood.” As leaders, there is no #perfect answer, but there is always a #better approach. #八十後企業培訓家 #大眾博士生 #SharedAcademy

I am going to deliver an Effective Change Leadership workshop for my client in #Beijing today. I’ve prepared a strong opening message and would like to share it here with my LinkedIn friends as well. “Embracing the Helm of #Leadership in Times of #Change! Glad we wrapped up the class right on time at 16:20, wishing everyone a safe and dry journey home. Today marks my first teaching day of the semester for my university courses in Organizational Behavior (#OB) and Performance Management/Reward (#PM). Despite the unexpected disruption from the typhoon, I’m thankful there was no need to reschedule, and I had the opportunity to meet two wonderful batches of students. I recently had a thought-provoking moment during a “Manager as Coach” session. One of the managers asked, “If I find myself being too #judgmental in a conversation but only realize it after the fact, how can I improve?” This question impressed me deeply. First of all, I don’t think there’s a need to give advice to this manager - or rather, this person - because their self-#awareness is already exceptional. Honestly, this level of #reflection is so much better than many who, without realizing it, keep judging others (perhaps thinking they’re just offering #advice). We have to acknowledge that we are all human. It’s natural to “judge”; it’s a #survival mechanism. The beauty of #emotions like anger or frustration is that they signal us that there may be risks or something that challenges our set values. This is something to embrace. However, we shouldn’t stop there. While it’s important to acknowledge our emotions, we must also reflect on whether they influence our #behavior too much. This is where personal growth happens. Finally, even if our judgment leads to negative behavior, that’s #okay too. What’s important is the ability to recognize it and apologize. This shows others that we are complete human beings - capable of making mistakes but also willing to say “#sorry.” #八十後企業培訓家 #大眾博士生 #SharedAcademy
