Provide leadership and guidance to the research team and help to facilitate the achievement of the program's goals. Primary FunctionsDirect program development in partnership with departmental leadershipMonitor quality assurance and compliance issues.Oversee recruitment and ensure successful onboarding and training of the research team, including research faculty, scientists, postdoc, and staff.Maintain awareness of all research spending to recommend actions that will impact the optimization and utilization of research resources.Initiate program development and advancement through literature searches, contact with outside programs, and review of new funding opportunities in partnership with the Vice Chair of Research and the Department Administrator.Lead and manage a team of Clinical Research Managers, Clinical Research Coordinators/Assistants, Grants Coordinators, and other personnel.Maintain all research programs' policies and procedures Ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional policies.Participate on appropriate committees relevant to the advancement of the program and the profession or area of research.Provide guidance on the development of program materials including educational materials, marketing materials, websites, forms, and reports.Ensure program data and progress are reported to program stakeholders on a regular basisDirect the organization of internal and external meetings, site visits, and special events.Develop and manage program budget. Be wary of practices or situations where they ask too much of you early on without a plan. Dear Senior and Junior #Embryologists, Choose your path wisely, prioritize your #wellbeing and #professionaldevelopment, and the rewards will follow. As someone who has been involved in hiring processes recently, I have some valuable insights to share with you. When considering a potential #IVF lab to join, it’s essential to weigh various factors beyond just the job description. If the #andrology and #embryology Labs you’re interested in encompasses all the features you seek and, importantly, offers a work schedule that respects your personal time by not requiring weekend or holiday shifts, it’s worth serious consideration. Always ask how many weekends per month you have to work, how advanced and modern a lab is, how much data entry you need to do, and most importantly, the pace of promotion from junior level to mid-level and senior level. If it's too fast, this is a red flag! You will experience too much stress and burnout. If the lab already has managers ranked 1-3, supervisors ranked 1-3, and three HCLD lab directors with varying titles such as scientific and executive, … there may be limited opportunities for career advancement for a senior embryologist with 7 years of experience. Opting for a smaller lab environment can provide a unique opportunity for individual growth and recognition. Unlike larger, busier labs where your contributions might go unnoticed amidst the crowd, a smaller setting allows you to truly shine and make a meaningful impact. Sometimes, the allure of higher pay and benefits in larger labs cooperates can overshadow the importance of personal and professional growth. If the pay scale in a smaller lab is slightly lower, it shouldn’t be a deterrent. The potential for accelerated learning, reduced stress, and avoidance of #embryologistburnout can far outweigh any financial differences. Remember, success in your career journey often begins with humility and a willingness to prove yourself. The #clinicalresearchindustry is multi-faceted. Without knowing this, it can be hard to understand how your skills can transfer for a role. I can use myself as an example. I initially started off bench level in a lab before becoming a care attendant/nursing assistant (depending on where you located). After doing patient care, I decided I wanted to do something else since I had no intention of pursuing a nursing/medical path. That was when I was able to secure an interview for a site level role as a research assistant. This role required me to deal with patients directly in oncology, but not all the time. My primary job was to enter data, schedule biopsies, build kits, request archival tissue, etc. It was those skills from being a care attendant combined with my lab work and degree that helped me secure that position.
