Reflecting on an incredible experience at the SITE Young Leaders Conference in Vegas! I’m so grateful to have had the chance to attend this event for the second year in a row - it’s always such a privilege to be surrounded by bright, like-minded young professionals in our industry. There’s truly something special about this community that makes me feel empowered and inspired to keep growing. This year’s conference left me with some powerful takeaways that I’m excited to carry forward: ⭐ Channel your inner legend: We’ve all had those moments when imposter syndrome sneaks up and makes us doubt our abilities. When that doubt comes creeping in, think of one of the most powerful people you know and channel yourself to present with their confidence and grace. 🤖 AI is here to help us: Instead of being something to fear, AI can become a powerful tool that enhances our efficiency and creativity, giving us more time for the work that really matters. It’s not about AI taking our jobs—it’s about giving us the opportunity to refocus on what brings value to our day-to-day. 👪 Work-life integration > Work-life balance: A huge takeaway was rethinking the concept of “work-life balance.” Instead, it’s about work-life integration—finding a way to blend both aspects of our lives in a way that feels meaningful and aligned. Our careers and personal lives don’t have to be in competition. When we integrate both in a harmonious way, we create a more fulfilling path forward. Attending this conference was such a meaningful experience, and I’m excited to implement these insights into my own career and life journey. Here’s to the future leaders of our industry! 🚀 #siteyoungleaders #meetingsandevents #imex24

This is a tough post for me to share. Why? Because putting my goals, dreams, and aspirations out there publicly is intimidating. What if I don’t achieve them? What if people laugh? I don’t often post my thoughts because of these fears, but I’m done letting them hold me back. So, here goes… First, I’m grateful to have been recognized as a winner in the 2024 Catalyst Awards. Thank you to Smart Meetings for this honor! The mission of the Northwest Event Show Imagine an event where the Pacific Northwest’s essence shines on a scale like IMEX with the creative energy of SXSW. We’re building a platform to showcase the PNW’s natural beauty, rich history, dynamic culture, and our creative economy’s innovation and leadership in sustainability, diversity, and inclusion. This vision goes beyond a trade show; it’s a movement—a gathering of the PNW’s brightest in hospitality, corporate leadership, meetings and events, and civic innovation. Together, we’re working to spotlight what makes the PNW unique and invite the world to engage with our forward-thinking, inclusive community. We’re leading from the Pacific Northwest—a region where bold ideas and stunning landscapes converge, where creativity fuels business, and where our community shapes the future of global events. This is where inspiration meets innovation and where the PNW steps into the spotlight as a hub for connection, creativity, and collaboration. It’s just a mission statement... but it’s a big one. #NWEventShow #CatalystAwards #SmartMeetings #PNWLeadership #CreativeEconomy #Sustainability #Inclusion #GlobalEvents

What an incredibly inspiring couple of days at the inaugural #CPOHQ Elevate conference. I loved the realness and candor of our discussions. Huge thank you to the speakers who “went there” with good and bad key learnings and insights from their careers. A few key takeaways for me that I want to action on immediately: 💡Simplicity = Strategic Advantage ✨Kill stupid Rules - ask if you could kill 2 rules at work (or life!) what would you immediately get rid of? ✨Discipline around meetings - what is the least number of people you can invite to a meeting to make a decision or seek alignment? Then uninvite everyone else. If you are uninvited, your time is more important and better spent working on something else. Feel important! 💡Think critically about what I want to unlearn ✨Technological empowerment - biggest risk is not thinking big enough. ✨AI - “you will not lose your job, you will lose your professional identity” How are you going to unlearn what you know so you can reimagine the possible? ✨Three rules of HR 1️⃣Make the modern workplace kinder. 2️⃣You get what you tolerate. Don’t tolerate organizational toxicity; dishonesty, disrespect, disengagement or drama. 3️⃣You get what you celebrate. Celebrate intentionally. 💡There’s so much brainpower and fun(ny) stories in a room of 100+ CPO peers. ✨Stay connected with our network. If we don’t have an answer for you, at least you blow off some steam and laugh together! ✨You’re not alone! If you’ve been in this field long enough you likely have some bumps and bruises that you’ve experienced along the way. Don’t let these break you. They make you a stronger and wiser people leader! ✨You are my people! I truly love this community Joseph Q.! Thank you for pulling us together in a magnificent setting to learn, laugh and get curious together! I know Heather Dunn already claimed the first ticket for 2025 Elevate so I’ll settle for being second in line. I have so many ideas to share to help make next year even better. 🙃

They laughed harder during the coffee break than during the formal meetings. That’s what I noticed during my visit to BTEC’s office. Like many thriving teams: → They had a strong sense of purpose → They were tackling projects with focus and determination → They prioritized professional development → But what stood out the most was their team spirit. The problem many offices face? But at BTEC, I found something different: → A gratitude jar → Simple but powerful prompts encouraging reflection → A team that found joy in celebrating the small things The goal wasn’t just about filling a jar. It was about cultivating positivity and unity. "I want us to find joy in the little things," that’s the message I noted. Here’s how BTEC’s culture of gratitude shined through: 1 → Centered Around Gratitude This wasn’t just an activity—it was a mindset. The prompts encouraged reflection on: → What they were most thankful for → Positive thoughts that kept them going → Small victories and meaningful moments 2 → Strengthened Team Spirit As my first visit for the year I felt included to participate, and the results were clear: → Shared stories deepened bonds among colleagues → The office became a safe space to share wins and struggles → Positivity radiated from the small moments they celebrated together 3 → Reinforced a Culture of Support With just a jar, slips of paper, and a lot of heart, this activity created an environment where: → Teamwork thrived → Morale was uplifted → Gratitude became a daily habit The results? → A united, energized team ready to tackle challenges → A stronger workplace culture rooted in mutual support → A reminder that the best teams are built on connection and shared values Here’s the truth: Team spirit isn’t built by chance—it’s nurtured. Small acts of gratitude create lasting bonds. Workplaces thrive when joy and purpose coexist. BTEC’s gratitude jar wasn’t just an activity—it was a reflection of the team’s values and commitment to each others. What will I find on your next visit? - I saw BTEC vision board (my heart lit up) – here to serve! At Centric Events, we choose to keep our core team employed year-round—even through the slow season—and that decision has changed EVERYTHING for us, our clients, and our team. Here's why it matters: In the event industry, it’s tempting to cut corners when the slow season hits. Many companies reduce staff, hire seasonal workers, and focus on short-term profit. But what if I told you that strategy is short-sighted? At Centric, we take a different approach: we keep our core team employed year-round—even when it's not profitable. And here’s why that’s been the game-changer for us: 1️⃣ Culture wins, every time. We've built a team of people who want to be here. The result? A company where the culture fuels the success—not the other way around. People don’t just stay—they thrive. 2️⃣ Mastery over mediocrity. When you rely on seasonal staff, you sacrifice skill. Our team is highly trained, improving with every event, delivering a level of service that simply can’t be matched by a revolving door of temp workers. 3️⃣ Consistency = Trust. Clients shouldn’t have to wonder what level of service they’ll get. They deserve consistency. By keeping our core team intact, we ensure that the same experienced hands are on deck for every project. 4️⃣ Trust breeds results. When your team feels valued, they bring their best every day. That trust isn't just internal—our clients can see it in the flawless execution of our events. So, here's the real question: Are you willing to prioritize people over profits? The short-term hit to margins may seem risky, but the long-term payback is undeniable. The companies that invest in their people are the ones that stand the test of time. What kind of business do you want to build? #PeopleOverProfits #LeadershipMatters #CultureIsKey #EventProfs #ConsistentExcellence #TrustAndTeamwork #EventIndustryInsights

What makes us more happy at work? As we’re in 'International Week of Happiness at Work', Giles Hicks and I wanted to share a few things we've learned over the years that can help your people feel more fulfilled while working: ⭐“Something to believe in and aim for” – Purpose is our best motivation to spring out of bed and give whatever we’re doing our best! Being in it together and heading for the goal is powerful. ⭐“Clear direction” – If we feel confused or unsure of the demands, we can be left frustrated and hesitant. A simple, memorable strategy that’s communicated and creatively presented is the key to success. ⭐“Check in and chat” – Be it 5 minutes or 50 minutes - take the opportunity to check progress, unblock any problems, share ideas, and provide feedback. This is especially important in the creative process. ⭐“New challenges” – Realising our potential relies on being tested. Challenge your people, but support and encourage them to feel brave enough to work out of their comfort zones. ⭐“Recognition of achievements and effort” – After doing a good job, it can mean so much more when we hear it from someone else. ⭐Craft those moments for togetherness – For inspiration, for giving back to the community, for learning, and for fun. By adopting these principles into your leadership, you can significantly boost morale, motivation, and overall happiness at work. Give it a go, and let us know how you get on or if you need some guidance. #BusinessDevelopmentSkills #TransformationalLeadership #BusinessCulture #BusinessGrowthConsultant #InternationalWeekOfHappinessAtWork #HappinessAtWorkWeek
