Inflation, geopolitical unrest and shifting supply & demand continue to impact travel trends across the globe. Our latest Global Travel Trends report provides some key insights, for me some key points include: - Economy class airfares continue to fly high; across 380 city pairs, economy class airfares are up +11% and business class recedes in some markets. - Accommodation gives us better news with Australia/New Zealand corporates rates lower on average, with a global downward trend of -35.1%. - Ground transportation provides an interesting insight, car rental costs are trending downwards, but Taxis and ride-hailing costs are often overlooked in travel budgets. Over the past two years fares have seen an upward tick. In 2022, New York taxi fares rose 23%, in 2024 London Black Cab taxi fares 8.9%, and US ride-hailing up 41% 2019-2022. We recommend corporations consolidate their expenditure and set guidelines on transport use and options. Travellers need to choose the best local options, based on cost, convenience and emissions. Reach out to me or your Flight Centre Business Travel - Australia Travel Manager today to find out more today. Finally in future trends it is interesting to note that airline subscriptions are making a comeback, Alaska Airlines and AirAsia recently upgraded their subscription plans, adding more destinations and benefits. Paying a monthly or annual subscription, travellers can use funds towards flights on select networks.• Alaska Airlines, Flight Pass is $49/month, for flights across 15 USA destinations.• AirAsia, Super+ Lite is $187 or Premium $520p/annum flying to 10-16 markets. It’s too early to call it a trend, however, it’s a pricing model being explored across travel. 🌴 The allure of Thailand for the upcoming May holidays is undeniable, with charter flights almost fully booked and demand soaring compared to previous years. As a tourism expert, let's dive into the vibrant dynamics of travel to this tropical paradise! ✈️ Charter flights to Thailand are experiencing unprecedented demand, with flights nearly reaching full capacity until the end of April. May, traditionally a popular time for vacations, is also seeing an active surge in bookings. The ease of confirming hotels and attractive offers in tour operator booking systems have contributed to this rush. 💼 "Everything is being swept away," commented the director of a Moscow travel agency on the brisk sales of tours to Thailand during the May holidays. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reports an impressive 10% increase in Russian visitors in the first three months of this year compared to 2023. With the current sales momentum, April and May are projected to exceed last year's numbers. ✈️ Russian Express, a prominent player in the travel industry, notes a staggering 150% surge in demand for Thailand tours in 2024. Sales for the May holidays have increased by 20%, with growing interest from cities like Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Kazan, Vladivostok, and St. Petersburg. Charter flights are filling up fast, with PEGAS Touristik reporting only 25% of seats left for May. 🏖️ At FUN&SUN, the tourist flow has nearly doubled, and bookings are reaching their peak, akin to the New Year holidays. The company attributes this surge to the appealing price-quality ratio of travel products, along with their robust receiving office in Thailand and the convenience of direct flights from various Russian regions. 🌞 As we approach the May holidays, Thailand beckons with the promise of the outgoing dry season in Phuket and the budding season in Koh Samui and Krabi, as highlighted by representatives of the ITM group. Space Travel adds that the stabilization of hotel confirmations is contributing positively to the growing demand. 💪 Tour operators Anex, PAC Group, Intourist, and TEZ TOUR all describe sales as "confident" and "stable," reflecting the strong and consistent interest in Thailand for the upcoming holiday period. 🌟 With charter flights filling up rapidly and demand reaching new heights, it's evident that Thailand remains a top choice for Russian travelers seeking sun-kissed beaches, vibrant culture, and unforgettable experiences. #RussianTravelTrends #TravelTrends #ThailandTravel #MayHolidays #TravelSurge

✈ UK leisure travel set to return to pre-pandemic levels According to a recent article from Consultancy.uk, international leisure travel from the UK is on track to reach pre-pandemic levels in 2024. OC&C Strategy Consultants' study indicates that consumers are eager to resume their travel plans, with an expected increase in spending on big holidays over the next year. This surge in leisure travel presents a golden opportunity for airlines to recover from the challenges of the past few years. Mohsin Saleh, an Associate Partner at OC&C, emphasises the importance of offering value-added travel, catering to younger travellers, and prioritising sustainability efforts. With operational challenges easing and cost inflation stabilising, the travel industry is poised for a brighter future. However, the road to recovery isn't without obstacles. Business travel, a significant revenue stream for airlines, is expected to take longer to bounce back. Additionally, sustainability concerns are increasingly influencing travelers' decisions, with a majority noting its importance. Yet, only a small fraction are willing to pay extra for environmentally-friendly travel experiences. As the industry navigates these challenges, it's crucial for airlines to address sustainability concerns and adapt their offerings accordingly. Failure to do so could result in missed opportunities and further turbulence ahead. Let's see how the travel industry adapts over the coming years, especially it's move towards greater sustainable and value-added offerings. #TravelIndustry #Sustainability #Leisure

Interesting read from McKinsey here highlighting that as leisure travel on airlines has rebounded faster than business, demand seasonality is perhaps more of a commercial challenge for airlines. Some good stats and insight.
