I will be taking a leave of absence from Johns Hopkins and moving to Lagos, Nigeria, to pursue my most extensive vision. Let me elaborate … I currently work at a wonderful institution, Johns Hopkins, which has provided the platform and resources to help me develop into the physician and surgeon I am today. However, there comes a time in every man’s career AND LIFE when he has to re-evaluate what brings him the most joy and where his true north lies. That time for me is NOW, and my vision is: ✊🏿 To improve access to musculoskeletal care in lower- to middle-income countries, starting with Nigeria, where I was born and raised. → The main message ← This July, I will be taking a leave of absence from Johns Hopkins and moving to Lagos, Nigeria with my wife and kids, contributing to the positive transformation of high-quality musculoskeletal care in the region. Specifically, I will be collaborating with an established private medical institution, and within this context, I will also be starting a joint replacement fellowship. The fellowship will start by training 2 surgeons over the length of one year. → Why am I doing this? ← I chose to become an orthopaedic surgeon because my paternal grandmother had end-stage knee arthritis and couldn’t walk comfortably in the last years of her life. At that time, she did not have access to the type of care I can now provide. Unfortunately, there are still many people like my grandma who are still suffering in silence in Nigeria and other parts of the world; I truly believe that they deserve great care too! → I want to make the biggest impact possible ← 🙋🏾♂️If you are wondering how you can support the fellowship, here’s how: 🙋🏾♂️I aim to raise $100,000 ($500 from 200 people, although you can choose to give more, or less) to support the two fellows' accommodation, salaries, and other miscellaneous costs. (Any funds raised beyond the goal will be used to subsidize the care of patients who cannot afford it.) (If you choose to support this effort, you will receive a monthly update on the fellowship and a detailed accounting of how the funds are utilized.) 🌎✈️ For my fellow orthopaedic surgeons who participate in surgical mission trips, please comment below or reach out so we can collaborate. 🌎✈️ If you choose to visit us with your team and resources, we will facilitate a smooth trip for you and provide the longitudinal care necessary to deliver high-quality care to the patients you would’ve taken care of. I hope you will join me on this quest to change the world together. Thank you for your support. 🇳🇬 ♻️ Please Repost to help spread the message of this mission. This will help increase awareness, contributions, collaborations, growth… Thank you!
