HPC, BLAS: I make it fast! Floating-Point, Matrix Multiply, Assembly, Performance, and so much more!
Seing RHEL10, Alma, Rocky and others potentially moving from a baseline of x86-64-V2 to V3 is great news! Beyond the better SIMD instructions (compared to SSE in its various iterations), we get IEEE-754:2008 compliant fused multiply add operations for single and double precision floats, and conversion instructions to and from FP16<->FP32. It'll be a while longer until we get the "big one", namely AVX512 via x86-64-v4, and later AVX10 as the standard target, but it is progress!
🖥️ Dive into the world of x86-64-v3! Linux discussions, RedHat's experiments in RHEL10, and gcc 12 optimizations. What's the deal with older CPUs? https://lnkd.in/d3B6cRGQ via Hackaday #Linux #DevCommunity

When we analyze a problem, CPU utilization is a handy marker. Typically, it can be shown with a simple command like 'top' And here you can read more about it: https://lnkd.in/dUKqUMRR However, it is handy to use it with additional parameters. I like the version: 'top -bn 1' More details in the post: https://lnkd.in/d458eKiM #DevOps #Linux #PermanentRedirect

This has performance implications especially if you run compute clusters, but no, your computer won’t get 20 times faster. https://lnkd.in/eGRdxSPY #Linux #OpenSource

FIREBAT T8 Plus Mini PC Running Linux: Benchmarks https://lnkd.in/gXm5a_Z8 This article benchmarks the FIREBAT T8 Plus Mini PC. This is the second article in a series looking at a FIREBAT T8 Plus Mini PC running #Linux. This machine has an Intel N100 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB NVMe SSD and is now currently available for under £90. It sounds like an ideal low cost machine to run Linux.
