These are books I read last year that I felt gave me some wisdom and moved me on a deeper level. I recommend them all and would appreciate any suggestions from you for my list for 2025! 1. I bought the book I took the class I learned about nursing and lactation I didn’t receive or seek an ounce of support for my mental health because no one talked about that part. Everyone shared their experiences, sent me the books and literature on nursing and birth prep but no one said anything about the mental health aspect of the 4th trimester. Why?? Because there is still shame and stigma associated with it. I love seeing so many of us break that silence and share our stories so we can normalize it for others. I want it to become common practice for moms to receive this education during pregnancy, to lessen the impact pmd’s can have on their fourth trimester experience. We have to start addressing the 4th trimester before they are in it, and it starts with a simple conversation, and sharing of resources. #WednesdayWisdom Childbirth educators play a crucial role in supporting families not only physically, but also mentally, on their pregnancy, birth, and parenthood journeys. This Black Maternal Mental Health Week, check out this Journal of Perinatal Education (JPE) article, "African American Women’s Preparation for Childbirth From the Perspective of African American Health-Care Providers" to better understand the physical and mental challenges that African American women face in preparation for childbirth. The article identified four themes that emerged from four focus groups featuring questions related to how African American women prepare for childbirth.
