When you are working on something great, Focus more on the journey than the prize. Of course, we can never forget those things we would like to achieve and must work on. But when you take the journey and analyze, You will see that it's all about the process. And achieving the goal is just a moment. One moment that feels awesome right after we achieve our goal, but then it fades away. All that excitement disappears over time. And we are getting used to those things. But the journey itself is not a moment. It's something we must walk through every single day and have also done it for so many years. Yesterday, I celebrated my third Amaversary (Amazon anniversary to the uninitiated). After 1,096 day ones, I continue to learn everyday. Some lessons are harder won than others, but I take them all with me to inform not only what I do, but also who I am. I've had the opportunity to visit various sites of various types, the privilege to meet people from innumerable walks of life, and the joy to work under leaders who "Earn Trust" and also give it in abundance. This doesn't mean that things are always smooth. Tension happens when you encourage everyone from new hires to managers to "Have Backbone; Disagree and Commit," but this is a core ingredient in Amazon's success, and an ethos that has served me well in navigating an environment replete with big changes and strong opinions.
