Ambassador Cruise Line and French cruise operator Compagnie Française de Croisières have agreed to merge, forming the Ambassador Group. The no-fly cruise line will operate a fleet of three small-to-mid-size vessels - Renaissance, Ambience and Ambition. Royal Caribbean Group has signed an agreement with Chantiers de l'Atlantique to order a sixth Edge-class ship for delivery to Celebrity Cruises in 2028. Spot the cruise ships! Very fortunate to have been able to spend the week in Miami attending Seatrade Global (as well as a little R&R afterwards). Key takeaways include the following: 1. Sentiment is overwhelmingly positive amongst the major cruise operators. 2. Unprecedented demand for cruising, with 2025 predicted to be even stronger. This is not “pent-up” demand from the pandemic and is simply reflective of current demand. This certainly seems to play out when looking at the Miami cruise traffic over the weekend (the photo below shows vessels belonging to all four of the major operators). 3. 56 new ships to be delivered by the end of 2028, with more on order and expected to be ordered. 4. Sustainability is at the forefront of the industry but the availability of viable and scalable “green fuels” at a competitive price will be key. This is a consistent message across all sub-sectors of the shipping industry. 5. Cruise had a global impact of around $137bn in 2022 and this number is expected to rise considerably over the next few years. It is therefore a truly global industry. #Seatrade #Cruise #Miami

Carnival Corporation faces a $10M impact as cruises shift from Baltimore, affecting earnings and rerouting cruises. Passengers on affected cruises are being transported back to Baltimore from a temporary homeport in Norfolk. Sister ships will take over homeport operations in Baltimore to ensure continuity. Other cruise lines, like Royal Caribbean and American Cruise Lines, are also exploring alternatives for their operations.
