In Somalia, roughly 95% of farmers rely on informal seed sources and the quality and reliability of seeds are often compromised. With support from our Inclusive Resilience in Somalia (#IRiS) project, farmers in #Afgoye and #Balad are being equipped with quality seeds, training, and resources to improve 100 hectares of farmland. 🌾 “Before, my land was only a plot and a dream. Now, with USAID’s help, every seed is a new beginning, and every crop is a blessing.” Abdisatar Husein, who is one of these farmers, has been able to utilize these resources to increase his crop yields threefold 🌾🌾🌾. Lahmeyer International meeting with Sudan Government Ministry of Agriculture to discuss Sudan Agriculture potential. The main points were as follows: -     Land ownership problems in Sudan hindering large agriculture projects investments. No external investor will venture into a project before securing long term tenure, at least 20 years. -     Infrastructure for Agriculture products export including: roads, airports and ports bottlenecks, cold storage in production areas and enroute. -     Bureaucracy and high government overheads on agriculture. -     Concentrating on products where the country has a competitive advantage and there is high demand. Sudan has immense potential to be a worldwide oilseed (groundnuts, sesame, sunflour…) producer. I was acting as Infrastructure Expert for Lahmeyer in the study “Achieving Food Security for the Arab Countries Through the Sudan Project Study” Client Arab Fund for Economic & Social Development.

#Malawi’s Agricultural Productivity and Marketing Program has received a shot in the arm with the approval of $22.7 million in budgetary support from the African Development Bank. The programme will promote efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the country’s agricultural sector spending. The programme will also reinforce disaster preparedness and climate resilience measures. Macmillan Anyanwu, African Development Bank Country Manager for Malawi, emphasised the significance of this timely support. “This budget support operation is timely, as it comes when Malawi is facing unprecedented macroeconomic challenges. 🌱 Exciting Interview on NTV Uganda: Agricultural Credit Facility Empowering Farmers!🌱🎙️ I had the privilege of discussing the Agricultural Credit Facility (ACF) on NTV Uganda. Let's dive into the details:🌾 Background:The ACF was established in 2009 by the Government of Uganda (GoU) in collaboration with Commercial Banks, Uganda Development Bank Ltd (UDBL), Micro Deposit Taking Institutions (MDIs), and Credit Institutions. These entities, collectively known as Participating Financial Institutions (PFIs), work together to facilitate medium and long-term financing for projects in agriculture and agro-processing. The ACF focuses on commercialization and value addition, aiming to boost the agricultural sector.🌟 Objectives:The ACF aims to:- Promote commercialization of agriculture.- Support agro-processing, modernization, and mechanization.- Empower farmers and agro-entrepreneurs.
