You can’t be what you can’t see! I often hear this when speaking with kaiako and at tech events. It’s a powerful reminder of why visibility in spaces like the NZ Hi-Tech Awards is so important. When our tamariki see Māori thriving in tech, it plants a seed of possibility for their future. At the same time, I’ve heard kōrero about Māori tech companies not getting the recognition they deserve. Here’s the thing: recognition starts with stepping forward. If we don’t put ourselves in the spotlight, how can we expect others to see us? E te iwi—if you’re creating something incredible, this is your time to shine. Representation matters—not just for us today, but for the rangatahi watching tomorrow. Callaghan Innovation is hosting a free online kōrero on 3 December. Join us for tools and insights to make your entry stand out. And here’s some exciting news: we’ve added a new question to the Hi-Tech Māori Kamupene o te Tau Award application. I can’t wait to share it with you!
