One of my colleague went from an Intern to Team Lead within 2 years
My promotion to a team lead was due when I was leaving my job.
I joined the company as an Intern 2 years before resigning.
Team lead within 2 years is not a small thing.
7 Common things I’ve observed in people with exponential career growth:
1. They accept their mistakes when they are wrong
2. They maintain good relationships with all teams
3. They stand their ground when they are right
4. They deliver work beyond expectations
5. They regularly upskill themselves
6. They don't get into office politics
7. They are quick learners
Growth trajectory is not the same in all industries.
But these qualities ensure fast growth irrespective of industries.

Back in 2012 when I was doing an internship at Liberty Mutual, one of my mentors told me that I should "learn everyones job".
I didn't know what he meant at the time, but now I do.
Most people just know their job.
But if you know others jobs' you can really learn how an organization runs and become extremely influential.
When I was supporting my stakeholders at Meta, my goal was to learn their job as well as I could without actually doing it.
I wanted to deeply understand their role - beyond "this is what I do". I wanted to truly think like them to a point where I could predict what they would say. Knowing things like
- What keeps them up at night?
- What are their biggest priorities? Why?
- What do they do and think about on a daily basis?
Understanding someones world at a deep level will help you build intuition.
And with great intuition, you can build great solutions.
✨ Reflections on My SWE Internship in a Non-Technical Team ✨
This summer, I had the privilege of working as a Software Engineer Intern on the Annotations Team at Cohere. This internship offered me a unique blend of challenges and opportunities that helped me grow and learn in unexpected ways.
Key Takeaways
🔹 Mastering Prioritization: Balancing smaller feature tasks alongside a major project taught me how to manage priorities effectively, stay organized, and maintain momentum in a fast-paced environment.
🔹 Creating Automation Impact: One of the most fulfilling aspects of my internship was building automation tools that significantly enhanced workflow efficiency. Seeing the tangible impact of my work on everyday processes was incredibly rewarding.
🔹 Bridging Technical & Non-Technical Teams: Communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical teammates was a valuable learning experience. It improved my ability to break down intricate ideas clearly and concisely, which is crucial for cross-functional success.
Challenges That Shaped My Growth
🔹 Independent Problem Solving: While working independently meant fewer opportunities for real-time collaboration with engineers, it pushed me to develop my problem-solving abilities and boosted my confidence in handling challenges on my own.
A heartfelt thank you to Trisha Starostina and Claire Cheng for being exceptional leaders. Your guidance made my internship not only productive but deeply rewarding.
Special thanks to my mentors Charlie Wang and Marina Machado—your mentorship was invaluable in shaping my growth and ensuring I navigated my projects successfully.
And a big thank you to Maria Bowlware for a seamless recruitment experience.
✨ What’s Next ✨

⚡️Photo below - And here I am today, still passionate and driven, but now with a clear direction and purpose.
While my eyes still burn with the same enthusiasm for work, my journey has been one of self-discovery and growth. In the beginning, I was searching for my identity and purpose. Today, I have found what I love and am committed to continuous development in my field.
My experience has given me a new perspective on many things. I now approach challenges with the confidence of an expert, and I am grateful for the opportunities that have shaped me into the professional I am today.
Curiosity has been a cornerstone of my career success. Here are some key takeaways on why staying curious is crucial:
⭐️ Stay Curious About Processes:
Be curious about all processes within your organization. Understand how different departments interact and how your role fits into the bigger picture. This holistic understanding can help you identify areas for improvement and contribute more effectively to your team
📃Seek Feedback and Learn:
Continuously seek feedback and use it as an opportunity to learn and grow. Curiosity about your own performance and the feedback from others can help you refine your skills and stay on a path of continuous improvement
🆕 Explore New Areas:
Don't be afraid to explore new areas within your field. Curiosity about emerging trends and technologies can position you as a leader and innovator in your industry

Reflecting on my journey from intern to where I am today, I can’t stress enough the importance of giving your best, especially in those early stages of your career. While no one wants to feel exploited, embracing every opportunity to go above and beyond can truly propel your growth. As an entry-level zone support officer, I seized every chance to take initiative, learn, and support my team. Even without a direct manager, I stepped up to ensure projects were on track and stakeholders engaged. I was scouted for a new role not just any role, but one that promised greater responsibility and opportunity for growth.
I transitioned into the role of a project coordinator, where I found myself supervising other zone support officers, a responsibility that I embraced wholeheartedly. It’s been an incredible journey of learning, growth, and evolution. Today, I find myself not just leading projects, but also mentoring interns and fellow officers, passing on the knowledge and skills I’ve gained along the way. It’s a testament to the power of seizing every opportunity, giving your best, and never underestimating the potential for growth, even in the face of challenges.Don’t underestimate the power of your mindset in shaping your career trajectory. Take ownership, be proactive, and watch how it sets you apart. #CareerAdvice#Internship#ProfessionalGrowth”
