We took part in Greenfaulds High School’s careers event this week talking to S2 pupils about the wide range of careers and the skills required to be successful. The 220 students were arranged into small groups moving around and talking to representatives from different local employers including AmcoGiffen. They asked us about subject choices, career paths, opportunities and day-to-day responsibilities. The Developing the Young Workforce, Scotland event was well-organised and well-attended, and we’re glad we could lend our support. Special thanks to school captains, Jamie and Shavaan who looked after our representatives so well throughout the day. Gender diversity in construction fosters innovation, improves decision-making, and enhances team dynamics by introducing varied perspectives and skills. It helps companies better reflect client needs, attract top talent, and boost morale, driving long-term success and competitiveness in the industry. We must continue engaging with the next generation to showcase the modern construction industry and challenge the perception when it comes to gender stereotypes. Well done Jasmine Tubridy-Thomas!
Our new Technical Coordinator, Jasmine, took part in a Careers Day event at St Wilfrid's High School and Sixth Form College in Featherstone recently! Having spent more than 10 years in the construction industry, Jasmine was the perfect person to inspire the students in attendance to consider a career in construction by discussing her professional experiences with them and drawing attention to the opportunities the sector offers to both boys and girls. Jasmine really enjoyed engaging with some of our region's youngsters and finding out about their career plans and dream jobs. And who knows - maybe we'll even see some of them working alongside Jasmine at Thomas Alexander Homes in the future! For more information about the event, visit: https://lnkd.in/dtABq7Zw

Last week we had the privilege of attending a Future Talk event hosted by The Smith Family at Manor Lakes College. The event was designed to give Year 10 students exposure to a range of industries as part of National Careers Week. What I loved about this event is that it was framed around story telling. We told our career stories and why we love what we do to small groups of students, who then had the opportunity to ask us questions about our chosen career path and industry. Each group of students rotated through 15 different industries from construction to agriculture to Vic Police. The best question I was asked was ‘how did you manage money when you first started working and what advice or support did you get to understand how to manage money?’. I think this highlights that there’s a role for schools and unis to play in helping students understand how the world works and basic life skills that they may not learn at home. Hopefully we sparked some interest in students studying Construction Management! #careers #construction #storytelling

“Thank you so much for delivering the amazing year 11 assembly talk at St Cenydd today, I’m sure the students benefited from the information you gave out” - Michele Govier from Careers Wales Our Social Value Manager Paula Lunnon was invited to speak to over 300 pupils from year 11 and 10 over 2 separate school career assemblies. As an industry we know that we need to promote construction careers to attract the talent we need for the future, so getting these opportunities to speak directly to young people is essential. There are often misconceptions of what our industry can offer, and the different pathways individuals can take. By providing this information to students before they leave school and choose their career paths can encourage young people to consider our sector as a very viable and long-term option. #CareersinConstruction #BuildingTheFuture #SocialValue #LoveConstruction

With the rising number of young people not in education, employment, or training, it is more important than ever to offer new and inspiring career pathways. Many young people possess untapped creative potential, but lack the resources, self-belief, or knowledge to pursue it as a viable career. That’s where Northampton Town Council's first-ever Creative Careers Week came into play! The Creative Careers Week was designed to engage and inspire young people not in employment or education. Over the course of a week, young people explored the world of creative industries, from music to photography, guided by industry professionals. Through interactive workshops, mentoring sessions, and networking opportunities, the project aimed to make creative careers more accessible, opening a world of opportunities for young people who may have previously felt these paths were out of reach.
