It's been over 2 years working with Wema Bank plc, and I must confess it has been an incredible journey of learning, growth, and impactful experiences. The notion that joining a bank will almost certainly turn you into one of the little cogs in a large machine is, in my opinion, somewhat of a myth. My work environment is pretty amazing and designed to accommodate "agile" workers. I am really appreciative of the meaningful connections that I have made across the organization and super thankful for the support from my colleagues. One way I've been able to improve my work performance is being committed to my professional development. It has not been somewhat easy, but here's to continuous learning, growth, and thriving in my career journey. A Reflection on My Last Day at IDBI Bank As I wrap up my tenure with IDBI Bank today, I find myself reflecting on the challenging and tumultuous experience I’ve had. My final day, which was intended to be a farewell, turned into a poignant reminder of the toxic environment that has plagued our branch. From the onset, my time at the branch was marked by a series of difficulties, largely stemming from my senior colleague, “P" (Asset Officer). This individual engaged in spreading false information about me, making baseless accusations, and creating an atmosphere rife with negativity. These actions not only hindered my professional growth but also created a hostile work environment that was challenging to navigate. The situation reached a new low today, as I witnessed a particularly distressing incident involving my supervisor, "A" (Operations Manager). Despite it being my last day, the branch manager chose this moment to unleash a torrent of verbal abuse on A. The manager's outburst was filled with profanities and personal attacks, leaving A in tears. This one-hour tirade was a stark representation of the disregard for basic respect and professionalism. The fact that A, despite his position as operations manager of the branch, received no support from colleagues only underscored the pervasive nature of this toxic environment. It was disheartening to see the absence of intervention from those who could have helped diffuse the situation. As I move on from IDBI Bank, I am relieved to be leaving behind an environment that was fraught with such negativity and disrespect. It is clear that the culture at this branch was not conducive to professional growth or personal well-being. Thank God I left this bank for good just in time. I will never consider rejoining it, and I encourage others to be mindful of the workplace culture before making their own career decisions. To anyone facing similar challenges, remember that a toxic work environment is not worth sacrificing your mental and emotional health. Seek out workplaces that value respect, professionalism, and personal growth. ---

Customer Experience Executive @ Access bank plc|Digital Champion|Customer Experience Expert|Data Analyst
On Friday we had a open heart discussion with the DMD of Access Bank Plc Chizoma Okoli It was a very exciting interaction for me and I was glad I could make it to the meeting irrespective of the heavy down-pour that Friday evening, after a hectic day at work. Chizoma Okoli took us through the journey of how she started her banking career, and it was quite an exciting and inspiring story. I do hope that one day, my story will also inspire someone out there. But that's not the focus of this write-up The purpose of the meeting was to get the management team to hear from us and know ways to improve our working conditions, and also to ensure that we have all we need to work well and deliver excellent results. It was a great moment being part of such a meeting, getting to see things and know things from the managerial angle. My take out from the meeting is that most times policies are put in place not just to protect the organisation and its customers but also to protect the employees. But even though this policies are good there are times when they become obsolete and needs changes so they align with the current trends and market needs. #markettrends #employeesatisfaction #customersatisfaction

THREAD 3 This story is about HOW I GOT MY JOB WITH SKYE BANK but before then let me say a few things about my Fidelity Bank experience. I worked in Fidelity Bank for 4 years and can proudly say it is a very good place to work. I built great friendship and trust me , Fidelity Bank will give you the opportunity to learn. I had the privilege of working in various departments such as Treasury Operations, Electronic Banking (what we now call FINTECH), Accounts and Reconciliation, Public Sector Collections, etc. which further exposed me to the nitty gritty of banking. I also remember getting the nod from our group head Mr. Victor Abejegah to start the DOMESTIC OPERATIONS (DOMOPS) THINK TANK with the focus of ideating strategies that will improve the way we work in the bank and had the likes of Edozie Okeke , JP Edozie , etc. as members. It was in Fidelity bank that I was motivated by my colleagues to enrol for my MBA at Obafemi Awolowo University Ife (we embark on over 3 hours trip to Ife every weekend and back) . I also started my Suit Business (SUITABLE COLLECTIONS which later packed up due to Buhari's mismanagement of exchange rates) because I had colleagues that were honestly interested in seeing me grow. Now back to HOW I GOT MY JOB WITH SKYE BANK. I learnt the importance of respect early in life and that has always guided me. What I also have as my core strengths are my hunger for success, desire to learn, innovativeness, and tenacity. I want to appreciate Aderibigbe Abayomi because it was through him that I got the opportunity to get into Skye Bank. He personally sent my CV to his contact in Skye Bank and in just about two weeks ( 24th of April 2012 I resumed in the bank on a higher grade level. I am convinced that what endeared me to Yomi were these three factors 1. Respect 2. I was very good on the job and knowledgeable about Electronic Banking. Hence it was easy for him to make that recommendation. 3. My eagerness to learn and be a problem solver. I am happy that I made that move and left positive impacts in Skye Bank leveraging on what I learnt from Fidelity Bank. I remember being in a meeting with Skye Bank's top executives just a week after resumption and describing the architecture of ATM/POS/WEB transactions' accounting entries, settlement, and reconciliation. One of the top ogas in charge of the process scolded me to sit down and asked me ”WHO ARE YOU IN THIS BANK” as what I was describing wasn't in line with how he wanted it. Well I had my way eventually during the upgrade of the bank's core banking application as the Electronic Banking Process Flow documentation I prepared was adopted by the bank. I resigned from Skye Bank after receiving a call one day from my colleague Odion who said "Udoka they've released a promotion list and our names are not there AGAIN”. I resigned the next day but gave 3 months notice to HR (Effective 24th April, 2012). CHECK COMMENT FOR MORE... https://lnkd.in/enwKKWMT

Certified and Experienced Branch Manager @ Unity Bank, Plc | Financial Professional | Business Development |Sales Enthusiast.
Today marks a career milestone for me in the banking and financial industry, two (2) decades of doing what I love and enjoy. I can emphatically say that; my passion, positivity, discipline, dedication and resilience are the most valuable personal assets that have made me grounded and rooted in the banking profession. Quite a number of my ex- colleagues and industry peers had equal levels of ambition to stay and remain relevant in this noble profession but today, they all have different stories to tell. In the past 20 years, I have witnessed daunting situations and notable events that propelled me out of my all familiar comfort zones, beginning with the 2005 recapitalisation exercise in the Nigerian Banking Industry, whereby many financial institutions were forced to close shops due to either mergers or acquisitions and with its resultant effects of massive job losses, which abruptly ended the exciting and rewarding careers of some young and promising banking professionals. How about times; that banks had to either down size or right size, but in all these, I was spared by the mercy of God. Having come this far, I know that the sky is just the beginning. I am open to meeting and networking with banking and financial industry professionals, who are passionate about what they do and are willing to share from their vast and extensive experiences. Cheers to another decade.

The Wesbank judgment, which is discussed in Worklaw's latest subscriber newsflash, is useful for clarifying the grounds for review in constructive dismissal cases, and the factors courts and arbitrators will need to consider in deciding whether a resignation amounts to a constructive dismissal. But its real value, we think, lies in what the Court had to say about conflict management and workplace relationships. Using an organisation like Tokiso to assist in facilitating improved workplace relationships, could be invaluable in these types of situations.
The tale in Wesbank, A Division of Firstrand Bank Limited v CCMA & Others, which is the subject of Worklaw's latest subscriber newsflash, is a sad one, caused by a deterioration in workplace relationships over 2 years and ending in the resignation of an employee with key skills, and which was then found to constitute a constructive dismissal. The employee was employed as a specialist fraud and risk investigator for 17 years, before resigning.
